Sounds Like
Basically an indie-rock band with R&B and country rock leanings; heavy guitars, lots of vocal harmonies, rock solid yet complex rhythm section. Sometimes we play the blues.
Doublehorse! formed underneath a tree in the playground of a grade school in Pennsylvania in 1986 with the ambitious but poorly timed goal of becoming the next Monkees. Though the group (Monkees) was experiencing new-found popularity at the time due to the success of their hot-selling greatest hits compilation That Was Then, This is Now and the syndication of their classic tv series, the confused indifference of their grade school chums convinced the young band that they would have to develop their own identity if they were to achieve the mainstream success that they already desperately craved. The early 90's saw the emergence of a much more mature group of awkward adolescents who were intent on creating a new genre of technically challenging, punk-inspired, progressive rock music. They began experimenting with odd time signatures, odd vocal techniques, odd lyrics, and odd hairdos, while also smoking cigarettes and occasionally drinking beer that they stole from their dads. Eventually these seemingly disparate elements began to coalesce into the new sound and attitude that the group had been striving for, and by the time they reached college, they were convinced that pop superstardom was an inevitable reality. It was in their college years (1995-1999) that some of their most memorable songs were written and recorded, such as "Dreaming in Stereo", "Caesar of the Sea", "The Ballad of Todd Rundgren", and "Disco of the Dead". Following college, the band relocated from the very uncool rural area where they had grown up to the incredibly exciting, bustling, and ultra hip urban metropolis of Philadelphia. The new sounds and grooves they experienced in the "big city" were quite an eye opener for the boys, and before long they were out rocking the downtown clubs of Philly on an almost monthly basis, with a new expanded lineup and funky soul sound. 2006 saw the release of the semi-full length EP/LP Position Yourself for the Future, which was received by the Philly indie music establishment with an indifference that, though disappointing, was somehow comfortingly familiar. Which leads us to today, late 2008, over 20 years later, where an older, humbler, and, yes, wiser band looks back at its past with the bittersweet sense of semi-satisfaction that comes with knowing that nothing in life is perfect, but that if you rock hard enough, for long enough, well... that's enough.
The version of "Dinosaurs" the other night was easily the equal of the Great Rock Live Performances Of The Past. It was up there with the Who in Rock and Roll Circus, Billy Jean's Moonwalk, and David Crosby berating the fans at Monterey.

Yes that's right! Life is too short to say "I gotta work. Gotta take care of the wife and kid. I gotta worry about time and case loads. What will this chemical do to these here oats?"
That's all well and good but the time has come! Do not make yourselves insane with the denial of what you truely are!... Musicians.
Hey, I feel like i haven't seen Team Doublehorse! in forever. If you're around, hope you can stop in and say hi at Johnny Brenda's next month! - Best, Andy Canadian
So it's a capital 'T' that's been hanging you up? Don't worry, it's only paint. And paint is easy to remove. If I was your mother and you were my daughter, you would be sleeping already. I wear these pajamas only on weekends. And you think that's healthy? People don't listen to their body until it's too late. I am not dramatic, I am merely being practical.
Hey how you doing Doublehorse! ?

After last night's lecture, someone commented to me that I must be an army brat because I had such fantastic teeth. Such teeth, he said, could only be the result of good breeding and access to the finest dental care. I explained that though I descend from a long line of Bulgarian nobility, when I was a boy people were still having infected teeth removed by a donkey tied to a rope. Happenstance, I explained to him, is the main reason behind Mustafio's distinguished countenance.
