arranger, producer, recordist, guitarist, bassist, instructor Born in 'Jersey. I wanted to play drums but my Dad had a guitar, so...
my first club gig at 17 years old, covering Doors, Stones, etc.; first 'paid' session gig, playing guitar on one of those plastic records that came inside of MAD magazine. No s;t!; rock and R&B in local bars in and around NJ/NY (EW&F, the 'Dan', TOP, Boz…).
Ft Lauderdale, FL around '77: rock and disco. ...mixed sound (as house engineer) at a couple of really nice clubs. …then played some more on several recording sessions and lots of club dates.
Atlanta, GA in '79/'80: country, some rock and swing here. ...mixed FOH at the Agora Ballroom.
Boston, MA in '81: attend the Berklee College of Music; Commercial Arranging for Large Ensemble; bartender.
Seattle, WA in '85: directed and played in a variety of bands, lots of union gigs and recording sessions, production work, writing arrangements (for pay!), music publishing and teaching! I built a substantial student clientele through local colleges and music shops.
back to the east coast around '94: got sidetracked with a day gig. ...a couple of nice cars, a nice house …and a 24 track recording rig with some nice mics and outboard gear (see darkriver.com or Dark River's MySpace page). ...spending evenings and weekends recording my own stuff and bringing in other projects on occasion.
North Carolina around Christmas time in '06.
Updates: 4/2007: I’m here, in a new house and studio space, seeking a network of players, and to put down roots teaching, playing, producing, engineering, writing and collaborating with others in the area. … and to not be a software engineer all the time! ...and to stop moving around so much!
4/2008: Things are ramping up as of late. I've met and worked with some great players over this past year and I'm finding a good mix of gigging, teaching and providing music services such as recording, remixing, preparing charts, etc., but feel like the best is right around the corner as recent networking efforts have introduced me into a new pool of local talent. Check my Blog page for more info.

Thanks man! Great crowd out there at the Getdown. If you can make it to Asheville, we're doing a big show at the Orange Peel on Oct 23. It's a co-bill with Grupo Fantasma (from Austin, TX. They are one of Prince's backing bands. 12 piece latin funk orchestra.) We hope you can make it.
Glad to hear you are doing well, Doug. Your music sounds awesome! My kids, Adriane and Alex (remember them?) are 27 and 23. Can you believe it? Alex has become quite the rock guitarist in Seattle and Adriane is a massage therapist in Houston, TX.
