Yeah, um art. And anything creative: architecture / construction / remodelling / design, writing / poetry, galleries / openings, cooking, theatre, film / movies, workshops. I love walking tours of downtowns; old buildings; art deco and art nouveau; concrete, mahogany, steel and glass; leaded and stained glass; pottery and basket weaving; oils and watercolor; finding a great hole-in-the-wall to eat at, not to be 'seen' at.
Music
Not much music I can't like. Even if I try. I listen to PR most of the time in my truck. ------- Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Pagininni, those boys knew romance. Love the classics, new age, rock, just need to try new ones.
Movies
I'm a SciFi/Fantasy junkie. Since Lord of the Rings, the audience now has more than outer space to imagine in realistic imagery. Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant, The Family Dog and the Simpsons -- now more recently, Rattatouille (!)) is amazing. Not much into anime, normally, but have to say I find Hayao Miyazaki a genius and visionary with his wonderful masterpieces. Love anything vintage, say pre-sixties. Funny-- the Marx bros (Hello I must be going), George Burns (my favorite things in life are singing and eating, most people would rather listen to me eat), Billy Wilder, Red Skelton, Joe E Brown, Barbara Stanwyk, Jean Arthur, the classics.
Television
Anything PBS, especially Nova, the Food, SciFi, HGTV, BBC, discovery and history channels. New Eureka is fun. CSI, and the CSI associates. Two and a half men. Ugly Betty is a great surprise. Cartoons -- I'm a guy, what can I say, King of the Hill (Hey, this is Texas), Skyland, Futurama, Looneytoons (Bugs, Daffy and the Taz), and always, always, The Simpsons.
hey, even in cartoonland, I've gotta be tastefully color coordinated!
Books
Like movies, I like to be taken where I can't go normally. Dan Brown was a wild ride, but Mark Twain ain't bad either. CS Lewis is my hero, and the classics are there for a reason. I laffed till I choked with Confederacy of Dunces (a great loss there was only one). I'll read just about anything on design, architecture, color and style.
Heroes
My parents first, but they fall under the following: Those who face the real world/extra real world every day -- teachers, cancer fighters/survivors and hospice workers, pediatricians/nurses, service men and women overseas and here, fire/police workers, single moms/dads, parents who work more than eight hours a day to keep the family well, anyone who challenges adversity and just goes on with a strong heart. Those who pursue a dream and reach for it despite what the 'world' tells them they 'should' do. Those who live to thine own self be true.

About me: Howdy-- I appreciate that you've stopped at my space, take your time to see my work, and get to know me that way. If you could also give a thought to leaving me a message -- just take a minute, as I like to know who comes by, and when you do, what were your thoughts. ------ This profile and display of pictures is the sole workings of Doug Danforth Design in San Antonio, Texas. You may also visit my website at www.DougDanforthDesign.com. Catchy, no? ------ Myspace has offered up, in the realm of generous photo uploads, a great opportunity to display visual works -- whether art, music, poetry or sculpture. The availability of sharing with other artists, creatives, funny folk and potential friends has been a wonderful network for me ------ I am a faux finish / muralist / trompe l'oeuille (or "trompe l'oeil") artist, furniture maker, interior space designer and also work in water garden and outdoor room projects as well (please feel free to check out my categories of pics). Being creative is to follow my heart and make things of whimsey, beauty and resource. I'm here to make friends and to connect with other folks in friendship and career type ways. I love to do anything creative, and that encompasses working what I call 'environmental illusion' -- the faux and design work; forming with my hands furniture and sculpture; all the arts -- theatre / music / dance; gallery openings; great recipes and eats; water garden and pond design; fine arts and paintings; museums and architecture; and just finding people who are big in heart, small in ego and open to making a friend here and learn and share the world.
(if you don't see anything in the blue box above, hit your refresh button) The really great pics have to be credited to Danny Warner, professional photographer who contributes to the San Antonio Express News; who along with his journalist wife, Chrissie Murnin, have made reading the paper real nice for me.
Who I'd like to meet: I'd consider it a great honor to meet other like-minded folks, artists, creative types, or those who are drawn to that frame of mind. Plus folks who would like to have me work with them on projects as well as consider me to work for them in my field of creativity in a business relationship. ------ As for friends, it pretty much falls with folks who hold in high esteem the realm of friendship. Should you wish to know more about the guy behind the art, feel free to click on the face with 'doogan' below. Thanks.
Crimson and Clover brings back memories of laying on top of the hood of a 1965 buick, on a warm summer night with the radio blaring and friends laughing, stars twinkling above and warm breezes from the lake shore. I remember that summer night as the first time I heard the song and that was several years after it has been released. It still moves me!
