The Rhys Chatham piece "A Crimson Grail" for 200 guitars and 16 basses was performed outdoors at Lincoln Center, and was a rousing success! This was so much fun to be a part of, and a beautiful piece of music. Thank you to Rhys, the conductors, and everyone involved in the production.
Doug has also co-written a new song for the band Mascott with their main force, Kendall Jane Meade. It is currently out in the UK as a CD single b-side,entitled "Please, Please, Please"
There are 2 DG tracks on compilations currently out: "Musicians for Minneapolis" benefits victims and families of the I-35 bridge disaster, with 100% of the proceeds going to the aid fund. Besides Doug’s track, it features Calexico, Dick Dale, Fishbone, Howe Gelb, the great Mark Kozelek, Los Lobos, Sparklehorse, Rogue Wave, M. Ward, Lee Scratch Perry with George Clinton, Stray Cats, others. Musicians For Minneapolis Compilation Also, the compilation out on the Audio Eagle label is still available. The documentary "AMERICAN CANNIBAL", which premiered at last year's Tribeca Film Festival played in theatres in select cities. Features a soundtrack by Doug Gillard with help from Kevin March.
It's a riveting look at reality tv, with interviews of reality stars, hosts and producers including Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead, Jonathan Murray, and former reality host John Lehr, one of the actors who play the Geico cavemen.
