I was a drug addict all my life.
In the end I was addicted to heroin, had lost all dignity and self control, and was getting ready to die. I couldn't stop using. I went to bed every night telling myself no more - this was the last time. And I woke up every morning with the same thought - how can I find my fix today?
I was a fairly functioning addict - I owned an insurance agency for a number of years. One day my wife and several other people walked into my office and advised that they were performing an intervention. I was given two options - continue as I was, or get help right now.
If I chose to continue, they would immediately cut off everything near and dear to me, and would do their best to make sure I had access to nothing. This included my daughter, my home, money, my business - everything. They would leave me to my own devices.
If I chose to get help, they would support me. This meant that I had to immediately leave for a detox hospital in Phoenix, spend seven days there, then enter the Teen Challenge program right from the hospital.
I chose to get help.
What at the time was the worst day of my life, became the best day of my life. I found Jesus Christ in the Teen Challenge program, and He saved my life. Not only just my physical life, but He saved my eternal life.
I have been saved by grace and grace alone. Nothing I have done is worthy of the love my savior has shown me.
I have been clean since that day in September 2004. For me that is truly a miracle. In 2005 I learned how to play the piano, and began to write songs about what I know best - the pain of addiction, the glory of salvation, and the need to stay in recovery and ministry once delivered from addiction.
I entered the studio, and in 2007 released my first cd, "Take This Cup". In 2008, I released my second cd, "A Blessed Man". In June 2009, we released our first cd as a band entitled "Dead Man Walkin'".
I hope you enjoy the music. It keeps getting better. With my wife Teri, we are now fulltime messengers for Christ, playing music and giving testimonies to anyone who will listen.
The members of the Doug Hallock & BROKEN Band are dedicated men and wonderful musicians who want to deliver this message as well. We do concerts in the state prisons in Arizona, at churches, rallies, events, and pretty much wherever anyone will listen to us.
