Doug Hawk received his Bachelor of Arts in Music (voice) from Moravian College in 1998, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While there, he performed at the Villanova Jazz Festival with the College’s Big Band and toured England and Scotland as lead tenor for the Moravian Choir. Since leaving college, Hawk has performed in various group settings encompassing the genres of funk, jazz, soul, rock, Hindustani classical, and even Christian Sacred music. He has studied with saxophone greats Dave Liebman and Jimmy Heath, vocalists Mark Murphy and J.D. Walter as well as improvisational guru Rhiannon (Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra). Hawk has celebrated eight Lehigh Valley Music Awards, including Best Male Vocalist of 2002 and 2006. His groups have opened for such acts as Bob Marley’s Wailers, Steely Dan and Michael McDonald. He currently fronts his own jazz/soul group, The Doug Hawk Proposition, and can be seen frequently with Scranton-based rock & soul revue, Music for Models. Hawk also maintains a private teaching studio in the Lehigh Valley where he has taught for ten years.
