Sounds Like
If music were a house: the foundation would be solid rock n roll, a kitchen smelling like bluegrass, a living room of blues, a bedroom full of folk, and a roof sheltering a brand of music yet to find a genre.
An offbeat example of folk music, Doug Jay has brought to modern music what has been shadowed by a tidal wave of factory falsettos, diamond-clad starlets, and stomach-churning mediocrity. With no formal music training nor the T & A to grace even the covers of National Geographic, the buzz around this young Garden State musician is spreading faster by solely word of mouth. For if a picture can speak a thousand words, a song can speak a thousand pictures, and Jay's songs house that quality. Whether it's a prophetic view of a warmer planet, or a tongue-and-cheek shot an ex-lover, each song possesses a humor and intelligence that can bring the singer/songwriter back to prominence in American music.
One's life tends to function like a mirror- reflecting the people and places we call reality. Jay's music reflects his life and philosophies on how one person can change the lifestyles of others for a healthier planet, healthier lifestyle, and a healthier self. The next John Denver you say? Cat Stevens sans Islam? However you want to classify him in the kiddie pool of musical genres, one truth shines through- the power to change lies within the ability to listen, not speak. Because without music and poetry- the world may listen, but has yet to crack a smile.
