What kind of a kid takes up steel guitar at age 8, plays in bars at 12, and spends the next (never mind) how many years touring, and then working sessions? I must by nuts, but I'll tell you I wouldn't trade my life as a steel guitar player for anything. I have to be one of the luckiest people on the planet. I enjoy my job. Not many people can say that. I get to play with some of the most talented people anywhere and I can happily say they are my pals.
My uncle took me under his wing when I was 12, showed me the ropes, so to speak, taught me how to take care of myself. (Some of the places I played at 12 were eye opening to say the least.) I credit my pal Terry Sumsion with everything I know about being a professional musician, he hired me when I was 16 and I still have fun playing music with him to this day. After all this time he will still pull something out of his hat that makes me rise to the challenge.
Throughout the year I am blessed to work with many of the new talents on what may be their first projects. Many of our established artists still call for me to add my steel's voice to their new projects. All in all, a very exciting venture for me every time.
My Dobro still gets to sing on many projects as well, and as if that wasn't enough I have recently acquired a Bass and Acoustic Guitar to try and get my brain around. Always trying to learn something new.
Thanks for dropping by, alot of you know me already, always happy to make new pals. Maybe we'll make some music together someday or just get to share some favourite road stories.
Say hey when you can.
