Rocketboy - Winner, Gold Medal for Musical Excellence; Winner, Comic-Con

Rocketboy by director Justin Guerrieri

Creating the score for Rocketboy was truly one of the most fun challenges I've had and it's been exciting to see the attention the film has gotten in festivals around the country, plus the great reviews the film score has received. You can read the reviews in my blog.

Shelter - Winner, Gold Medal for Musical Excellence

Shelter by director Luke Hutton

Luke Hutton’s Shelter is an elegant, taut drama that introduces us to several characters who cross paths during a severe thunderstorm. With so many different stories going on, it was obvious from the start that having a separate theme for each character/story would be an unwieldy approach. The underlying premise of the film — that people are inextricably connected — created a situation in which a general unifying idea would best serve the multiple storylines. Since the moments to apply music are short throughout much of the film, it was necessary to create a theme in its entirety first, and then find fragments of the theme that could be sprinkled throughout the picture. Only at the very end over the credits does the theme have its chance to play out in full. more...

She Wore A Yellow Scrunchy

She Wore A Yellow Scrunchy by director Alexandra Apostolakis

Alex created a tough, girl-power film with a western flavor. One of her mentors, music editor Kenny Hall, added his touches at the final dub. It was a great project to score, especially since it gave me the chance to harken back to the Spaghetti Western scores of one of my musical heroes, Ennio Morricone. About me:

It has been my good fortune to score some great projects, including 8 seasons of network television and over 30 features, docs and excellent short films. Two years out of the USC scoring program, I was hired by Joss Whedon to score Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Fox. I then scored Angel (seasons 4 and 5) for Fox, Miracles for ABC, all 3 seasons of the Annie-Award winning Duck Dodgers for WB Animation, and Day Break for ABC. My feature film work includes co-scoring with Chris Beck the thriller THE SKULLS III for Universal/Original Film, scoring the Screamfest horror winner HH HOLMES and many more.

Honors include Annie Award for Outstanding Music in an Animated Television Production (Duck Dodgers), Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Film Music and 7 Gold Medals for Musical Excellence by the Park City Film Music Festival, Best Use of Score award by The Film & TV Music Academy and BMI Film Scoring Award. "What makes Douglas stand out is that he's an excellent storyteller. He truly immersed himself in the material, scoring not what we see but what we feel. The result was an incredible score that adds tremendous production value to the film. It's a bonus that he happens to be a great collaborator."
Brad Kean, Director,Entity: Nine

"Doug's understanding of story, character and visuals were as beneficial to the film as were his musical instincts. His light and elegant touch allowed the music to become such an organic part of the narrative, it's hard to imagine the film without it."
Luke Hutton, Director, Shelter

"Douglas is committed to the art of storytelling, and he captured the tone of ROCKETBOY with music that is haunting, lush and magical. I came to him with a unique style in mind, and he was able to achieve it perfectly."
Justin Guerrieri, Director, ROCKETBOY

Who I'd like to meet:

Dear Douglas Romayne

Every time that we listen or write music... play an instrument... dance... act in a play... or work in some audio/image/video engineering process... Something is healing inside...

When we share it with friends... Something is healing all over...

Love can drive... in a simple way... everything

Have a lot of smiles... this week...

We are connected
