Doug Meseberg was born in Watertown, South Dakota and began his musical career at a very young age. It wasn’t until the gift of a guitar from his grandfather at the age of ten that music really began to shape his life, along with the many influences of his country background. The oldest of a family of talented musicians, he began performing professionally at the age of twelve with his own band. By the age of twenty eight his talents and the demands of his popularity found him performing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
Desiring to expand on his musical expertise and experiences, Doug moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1982 where he met and played with some of the best musical talents in the country. While living in Las Vegas he played many of the casino’s shows and lounges as well as traveled throughout the United States performing with various musicians like Jerry Lee Lewis, Al Hirt, Bobby Vinton, Hee Haw’s legendary steel player Curly Chalker, and had the honor of opening for greats like Jim Glassier, Mel Tillis and Warren Zevon.
Doug moved home to South Dakota in the winter of 1995, retiring from live performances and concentrating on his family, ranch, and writing his own music. “I’ve played just about every stage, honky-tonk and casino from Florida to California and I have little desire to go on the road again, missing my family for long periods of time. You miss out on the little things in life when you’re not there,” says Doug.
The ‘Huntin’ With My Dog & Other Love Songs’ CD was produced entirely by Doug Meseberg, under his label and publishing company, Lazy Dream Ranch Enterprises, Incorporated (LDR Ent, Inc), to commercially release the first twelve of the many originals Doug has written over the years. The songs chosen for the CD were done so to include a variety of old country, new country, fun country, country rock and a touch of blue grass.
“I write music because it is what I hear in my head and feel in my heart. Each song is a labor of love. A child I nurture, if you will,” says Doug, “I’m not sure that’s good enough for some, but for me to just be me, that’s who I am. My family has always encouraged me to play and write music. It wasn’t until I began recording my own originals that I learned this is what I love to do most. I like to believe my songs are good enough to ultimately be recorded by today’s popular artists and that’s a goal of my songwriting.”
Doug recently released his controversial single “Indian Casino” and once in a while can be enticed out of retirement for the occasional live performance. However, he devotes most of his time working on the tracks of his many originals still to be released.
Whew, writing and singing are easy compared to building a MySpace page, which seems to take a major degree of thinking (and lots of patience) - Still need to tweek a few of the 'little things' and hope you'll tune in often to see how it progresses. In the interium, here's hoping you like what we've put together so far..
