ABOUT the SONGS:****************************
"Written in Stone" is about the day of the wreck and the denial that comes
after the death of loved ones. It's been 25 years since that fateful day but
I was not able to write directly about the events of that day until this last year. It was just too painful.****************************************
.***************************************************************
"Pray Me Home" is about the uncertainty that our troops face every day that they are in a war zone. Any day might be their last day on this earth. Please pray them safely home again. The young soldier in the picture is my cousin's son. He was killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb in 2004.
********************************************************************************************************************************"Undone" is about how a longtime relationship can fall apart, and how the perspective from each side can be so different that you wonder if you ever really knew that person at all.
".***********************************************************
"20/20 Hindsight" is about how much better my hindsight is than my foresight.
Life just seems to be one constant surprise after another to me. :)***************************************************************
"The Bridges That You Burned".
It just seems to me like there are an awful lot of folks now-a-days
who are ready to throw you under the bus, and burn the bridges to their past,
without any regard for those they leave in their wake. I think that attitude is a sad reflection of what our society has become. ****************************************************************
"Strong and Silent Man" is about the expectations that men can shoulder any burden without fear, and in silence. I wrote it back when my wife and I were going through some really tough times financially.********************************************************************************************

"I Was Drawn". I've known quite a few folks who have battled addictions in their lives. So many of them don't intend to lose control, but then they do, and for so many of them, then it is too late and they never pull out of it. ********************************************************************************************************************************
Hearts and Minds" is about the futility of the war in Iraq. Don't get me wrong here, I'm about as far from liberal as you can get, but the idea that we can
democratize the Iraquis is pie in the sky, and our boys shouldn't be dying
for such nonsense. The young soldier in the picture is my cousin's son. He was killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb in 2004***************************************************************************************************************************
Shadow of Your Love". I wrote it many years ago after I lost my wife and daughter in a car wreck. For a long time after that I doubted that I would ever love again, and for even longer I thought I'd never love deeply, that any love I found would be a pale shadow of what I'd had, and lost.****************************************************************************************************************************
"Hard to Carry On" is a song that I wrote about how terribly lonely I was after Christy's death, and how I sought solace in other women's arms, but they couldn't heal my broken heart.*****************************************************************"In My Dreams Again" is a song about my 1st wife, Annie. She was a real wild one. She ran off with a drug dealer while I was in army boot camp. Anyways, she showed up in my dreams one night about 30 years later so I wrote a song about it. It wasn't intended to be a love song, but sometimes songs just sort of write themselves and I just go with the flow.*************************************************************************************************************
"Diamond in the Rough" is a song that I wrote for my wife Elisa, shortly after we met
********************************************************************************************************************************
"The Witching Hour" is another song that I wrote about dealing with my loss and how Christy was in my dreams and thoughts at every turn.
********************************************************************I Don't Need No Enemies" is about the kind of relatioship that you look back at and wonder what you ever saw in that person

I started writing songs as a teenager, but it was only lyrics and melodies that I kept in my head, as I had no musical background and couldn't play any instruments. I taught myself to play guitar when I was in my early 20s. It did not come easily to me. In fact, it was quite a struggle, but after many hours of practice I finally was able to play a few simple songs. Shortly thereafter,
I began to put chords to my old songs and then to write new ones.***************************************************************************************************************************
When I was 26 years old, a great tragedy struck my life when I lost my wife and daughter in a car wreck. I wasn't in the wreck, but I don't know if I would have survived that time if it hadn't been for my guitar, and putting my pain and loss into songs. They were a great solace to me. *******************************************************************
Shortly thereafter, I moved from Ohio to Texas to start my life over. I went to McClennan Community College in Waco for 2 years and then transferred to Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, Tx to complete the remaining 6 years of my degree. :) I finally got my BA in 92. :) I had continued playing guitar and writing songs while in college. I finally got up the nerve to play at some open mike nights in San Marcos and New Braunfels
from 87-94 where I met Terri Hendrix and Al Barlow. I also met my future wife, Elisa, in 87 at Southwest Tx State.
From 95 to 2004, life got in the way and I hardly picked up my guitar or
wrote any songs at all, but with the encouragement of my old college buddy
Mark Butland and my dear wife Elisa, I picked it back up and have written
many new songs in the last few years. At my 50th birthday party, I decided
that I better get moving if I ever planned to do anything with my songs, so
in the last year I took a bunch of my songs over to aspiring country artist,
Rod Lee's home studio and he recorded a simple demo of me playing some
of my songs. Four of them are posted here currently with more to come.
I am a singer/songwriter with the emphasis greatly on the songwriter side.
I am looking for artists who would like to record and perform my songs.**********************************************************Written In Stone by: Doug Zimmerman Add to My Profile | More Videos
