eh up, cheers for dropping in.. for those of you that don't know, us at the redbricks have been putting on killer nights of fucked up folk and fun loving psychedelia in ever evolving venues around london for a good 18 months now and are permanently broadening the horizons of what we can achieve from pulling together a highly skilled and enthusiastic gang of home spun progressive songsmiths..
it all started in soho may 2006, when, having recently moved to london, our main protagonist and self confessed psychedelic impressario, lee gorton, decided that the city was lacking somewhere for it's bristling nu folk starlets to hang out and launched our mother night 'down at the redbricks' at the black gardenia.. word spread pretty quickly after early gigs from the draytones, the beep seals, findlay brown and pete greenwood helped 'em all land decent deals on the back of impressive live performances and the sense of a burgeoning scene...
the flagships night has since moved to the elegant location of the english maid, an undiscovered, moored, three tiered boat on the thames with stunning views of the houses of parliament from londons best smoking terrace.
we're running open mic nights for the finest fingerpickers at the gladstone on the 1st and 3rd sundays of the month and putting on gigs out west on the 2nd and 4th wednesdays at the defectors weld in shepherds bush.
we've instigated our own annual fete in the shape of the bonnington square festival which occurs, free, every july in bonnington square, vauxhall, and is a kinda old school jubilee style street party crossed with a pagan village fete. we are imminently about to launch our own record label, the redbricks recordings. the first single by pete greenwood will be out in february.
we're slowly gaining ground across britain too. 'up at the redbricks' runs monthly in manchester in the sunny suburb of chorlton at the newly opened dulcimer folk bar along side our nights every tuesday at the newly opened deaf and dumb institute just off oxford road. the first thursday of every month is at the an old converted music hall, the maltcross in nottingham. we're starting a run in sheffield too, 1st friday of the month at the cremorne.
sooo, if you're into acid-folk/wyrd-folk/nu-folk/psychedelia/tropicalia/krautrock/progrock/freakbeat or just good 'ol fucked up pop music from the golden age come and hang out. we really try to make as many of the gigs as free or cheap as possible so they're accessible to all and we're persistently uncovering a healthy new crop of super talented psychedelic beatniks and off beat venues... come and get involved!!
love, the redbricks. x
