Doing their own thing on the fringes of the eclectic Leeds DIY scene, downdime are known for their energetic and upbeat live performances. Formed in 2004 by lead vocalist/guitarist (and ex-Boyracer on the sublime Sarah Records) Gerard McGurn, bassist Ste Grindrod, keyboardist Liz Hensor and drummer Eddy Lines, the four released their debut 7” “Seeds of Hopelessness” which sold out fast, then followed it with double A-side “Hate The Morning/Joanne”, produced by Alan Smyth (Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, The Long Blondes). In 2008 the band hooked up with producer Matt ‘randomNumber’ Robson and set to recording the 8 tracks for “Knowing Too Much”, in part at legendary Leeds venue The Brudenell Social Club. Downdime display a wide range of influences spanning disparate genres including pop, grunge, punk, twee and classical. The results are melodic, often sunny-sounding tunes shot through with dark, distorted undercurrents.
For UK/European bookings please contact Scott at The Glass Agency.

Some stuff other people said about debut album Knowing Too Much:
Knowing Too Much is a sheer delight... A damn fine pop album for those who like their pop shrouded in off-kilter noise. - Leeds Guide
I am genuinely surprised by Knowing Too Much. It really is a pristine pop record - with an aching melancholy at its heart. - Lostmusic Blog
Knowing Too Much is an album full of British Pop tunes, toughened up with burst of guitars and frenetic jangles. The album is refreshingly compact... an utterly impressive debut. - Manchester Music
Lessons’ and ‘Joanne’ are two of the most endearing guitar songs issued in a long, long while... From start to finish this album should be played loud from a car stereo and covers enough bases to provide the soundtrack to your Spring with its pop duellings yet never loses sight of its credibility factor. - This Is Fake DIY
Backed by the zesty Squirrel Records, downdime sound every bit the cool sub-radar Leeds outfit, with this eight-song album recorded at The Brudenell Social Club. It’s a messy attempt at something very pure, and that is always a good thing. - High Voltage
If you like your Pavement, Mercury Rev, Sebadoh and your Wedding Present then this is for you. Well played, well recorded, good songs, good sounds, all good, sometimes it really is that simple. - Organ Magazine
Hey! Yeah, you too! That Jeff Lewis gig was SO GOOD. Incidentally we still carry around pictures from that epic SMLO squat night/day... ha! xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sof

Damo Suzuki is a legend! Best known for his stint as the legendary Krautrock pioneers Can as their singer in the 70s, Damo now tours the world to hook up with the best of local musicians to produce stunning sets of improvised music. We cannot stress how good this will be enough - you’ve never experienced anything like a Damo Suzuki show before, even if you’ve been to a Damo Suzuki show before! This extra special show will see Damo backed by the collective brilliance that is Quack Quack and Napoleon IIIrd.
Quack Quack simply the best live band Forest of Sound have ever seen - so much energy, so much musical invention, so much skill... well, it's almost obscene.
One man empassioned alt-pop legend with his reel-to-reel tape player, Napoleon IIIrd is a man of skewed melodies, bouncing beats and a big bucket of inventiveness... and is simply ace.
Charlie Parr is from the same Duluth music scene that spawned the likes of Low and Haley Bonar, and his music delves deep into the back roads of American folk music, there’s hints of Robert Johnson, Nick Drake and Will Oldham in his playing, and a true from the heart power and clarity that is simply stunning. This guy is the real thing, and you can hear it in every note he plays, which would also explain why the people at the superb End of the Road festival ask him back every single year!
Neil McSweeney plays beautifully considered and perfectly restrained music that will delight fans of Low, Adrian Crowley, Nina Nastasia, Mark Kozelek, and Jason Molina.
Deftly fingerpicked folk loveliness from a local favourite - Michael Rossiter perfectly executes traditional folk as well as his own material, sings from his heart and gets the perfect sound from his guitar.
