    Downhill Bluegrass Band is one of Sweden's most prominent and respected bluegrass bands. They are highly regarded both in Europe and in the United States, where they have toured several times. Downhill Bluegrass Band have been invited to play at IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association Awards) in Nashville, TN, several times because of their skill, their song writing and their unique sound. Downhill Bluegrass Band have played in a number of European countries as well as in the US. Most of the band's material is written and composed by Jonas Kjellgren. Several of his tunes have been recorded by well-known American and European artists. Downhill Bluegrass Band play traditional bluegrass as well, both instrumentally and with the three-part harmony singing which is so specific to the genre. In Downhill Bluegrass Band's music you can hear the geographical and cultural similarities between Appalachia, USA, the home of bluegrass, and its mining districts, and the mining and heavy industries of Bergslagen, Sweden, where the band originates (Avesta/Torsåker). Bluegrass is predominantly working class music which has reflected poor conditions in the countryside and mining villages. The music invokes the hard work in the mines and fields, the wide open spaces, the simple life, jealousy, prison guards and the battle between God and the Devil. Downhill's music reflects many of these themes. Music and lyrics express life in the here and now but with an awareness of tradition. The brothers who founded the band in 1997, Kenneth and Jonas Kjellgren, have been at the core of Downhill Bluegrass Band. Members have varied but the instrumentation has stayed the same: guitar, mandolin, fiddle, double bass, dobro (resonator guitar) and the characteristic five-string banjo, played "three finger style". Members today are Jonas Kjellgren mandolin and vocals, Magnus Sundström guitar and vocals, Kajsa Westin upright bass, Ivor Ottley fiddle, Nicke Widen dobro and Kenneth Kjellgren banjo ..Former line ups.. have held Jan Ekman on dobro, Hans Wahlstedt on guitar and vocals, Christoffer Olsson on guitar and vocals, and Jimmy Sunnebrandt on bass and vocals, amongst others. .. ......
