Download 2009 was our best year ever, and saw 80,000 rock and metal fans enjoy three days of the best music in the world. Across the weekend of June 12th - 14th, all of these bands significantly improved our lives – it was awesome…

Download closed its gates for another year on June 14th 2009, concluding what was our best year ever. 80,000 people per day (including 60,000 campers) experienced a glorious weekend with over 120 bands, unrelenting sunshine and a brand new site layout which brought all stages into one all inclusive festival arena, with a fourth stage added this year courtesy as well.
With phenomenal headlining performances from Faith No More, who reunited especially for Download, and wowed the Friday night crowd with a set list including classics ‘Epic’, ‘We Care A Lot’ and ‘From Out Of Nowhere’, and Slipknot, whose first UK festival headlining performance on Saturday saw full on pyrotechnics and spinning drum kits, culminating what frontman Corey Taylor described as ‘the best year and a half of this band’s life’. Def Leppard and Whitesnake wrapped everything up on Sunday, leaving every single fan in the Arena crying for more.
Other memorable performances came from The Prodigy, who were fit and fighting over on the Second Stage, the exclusive reformation of Limp Bizkit on the Friday, Anvil’s return to Donington after 23 years – which saw a special appearance from Down’s Phil Anselmo for ‘Winged Assassins’, the spandex-clad hair metal antics of Steel Panther, who were introduced on stage by Bam Margera, and the exclusive UK performance from the sharpest men in rock, ZZ Top, on Sunday afternoon. The show stopper on Saturday came not from any of the bands though, but from a swarm of angry bees that stormed the Second Stage, stopping Static-X going on, until a bee keeper was located on site to help get rid of the buzzing invaders!
Chief Officer of Operations for Live Nation and Festival Director for Download JOHN PROBYN had this to say: "How do I sum up this weekend... A truly amazing festival with what we believe is the best site Donington has ever had that gave bands, public and traders the opportunity to experience a truly amazing few days. There is no doubt in my mind, we really do have the best fans in the world."
Download Festival promoter ANDY COPPING added, "What a weekend, even the good Lord gave us great weather, he must be a rock fan! Without a doubt the best three days of my life and 80,000 others by the look of it! The bands and fans have been brilliant and I can’t wait until next year now!"
And so now we look onwards and upwards. It’ll be tough to build something even bigger and more epic than Download 2009 – but we’ll die trying. Stay tuned for updates about next year.
