New album "aLive" is available now from Musiikkikullas & LevykauppaX Oulu.
First of all Downstone is about rock and metal. Yet it's the dynamics, melodies and the strong atmosphere in music which are the elements to finally create a unique Downstone brand of music and style.
Downstone was formed in 2005. The nearby towns of Oulu and Kemi, located in the Bothnian Bay area in northern Finland, were the birthplace for the band which was originally put together as a side project by the band mates Markku Kerosalo(bass) and Ville Markkanen(drums). At the time they were also members of the band called "May I Cry". After a while the two founding members got in touch with Kai Kinnunen through an internet search and got him to play the guitar for their new project. Soon the talk about side project was, however, proven to be irrelevant.
The next step for the band was to find a vocalist. A lucky incident brought the guitarist Kai and vocalist Valtteri together. After hearing Valtteri singing Kai was immediately certain that the voice would suit perfectly to the sound of Downstone. More luckily Valtteri was available and eager to join the band. A few rehearsals and time spent on composing revealed the band lacked another guitar to fatten up the sound. Tommi Viirret came along after a couple of months and the band was seriously up for action.
Now Not too long after the formation the band in was in real trouble 'cause Markku and Ville were forced to leave the band due to a lack of time. Kai already knew drummer Juha Alatalo from their previous projects together. Juha didn't hesitate to face the challenge and replaced Ville on the drums. At the same time the band was also actively looking for a new bass player and Tapani "Tapsa" Puurunen was soon to complete the new line-up. In addition the line-up now consisted only of Oulu-based players. After these rearrangements Downstone had a possibility to concentrate fully on writing kick ass material built on the distinguishing elements of the band's sound.
The first demo, recorded at the Sirius-studios in Oulu, was released in early June 2006 on the band's website. Just a couple of months later a self-titled six-track ep was released to be a more representative release of the many-sided Downstone material. Year 2007 has been very productive for the band which comes to writing new songs. During the year Downstone has also done a bunch of live shows and an eight-track self-released live album, entitled "aLive", will be released in September 2007. Around that very time comes out also a single "Lose it" which is recorded and mixed by multitalent Jari Niemi.

Three brand new tracks of Black/Thrash inspired by the myths, legends, history and fantasy inspired tales of old England, as well as a re-recording of Level 4 from our first demo.
