Four musicians with long experience of playing acoustic music of all kinds, we first came together to provide music for an Appalachian dance group based in Bakewell, Derbyshire. Since then we have gone on to play concerts, barn dances and festivals all around central England. A line -up which features two flavours of mandolin plus banjo and guitar produces a distinctive, driving style on the tunes and most songs feature three or four part harmony.
In addition to regular concert and barn dance appearances, we also host a monthly old-time session at The Devonshire Arms, Baslow, DE45 1SR on the first monday of every month. Email: enquiries@downtrodden.org.uk for details

Reviews
“from start to finish what we are presented with is an authentic sounding band specialising in old-time music with a high ‘feel-good’ factor’.” (Maverick)
"A very enjoyable CD. Good choice of songs, well-sung and well-played." (Old-Time Herald)
"the music is tight and together but also fun .. the CD makes for entertaining listening with standout moments throughout" (Living Tradition)
"It's a brew piped out of the Ozarks and bottled in Bakewell, and it tastes like the pure drop to me. Friskier than a coon dog with fleas." (Stirrings)
"a British band bringing their own interpretations to some good material. I don't think they will stay downtrodden long, I think they are stepping up to the plate and expect to see them at many festivals in the future." (Old Time News)
"a winning home-made, one–take sound of a front-porch group on a flat-bed truck bowling down a dusty country road. Hitch a ride!" (EFDSS English Song and Dance)
"Seventeen tracks of pure joy. For anyone starting out in old time and/or bluegrass music and wanting to capture a whole catalogue of great songs and tunes, all in one place, then this recording certainly delivers the goods. This band can also cut it live. I know, because I’ve seen ’em in action." (British Bluegrass News)
"From bluesy laments, full of genuine yearning, to finger-pluckin' good instrumental barn-stormers, these tracks are packed with more life than a freight-car hobo's vest." (Derbyshire Times)
"The best down-home string-band music I've heard in a long while" (Fred McCormick, Worlds of Tradition Radio Show)
"The musicianship is quality, the arrangements are tight, the vocals are good and the harmonies superb. A strongly recommended buy for the collection of country and folk fans alike" (Folk Monthly)

Please submit your artist news and events to CountryHome Forum to help your artists to get well known better in Europe. I know that many artists from North America don't have their music videos uploaded to German video websites. The most popular websites are MyVideo.de and ClipFish.de. That means your European audience does not have the chance to find them.
I understand that most of you don't speak German and are not able to upload videos because of the language barrier. If you would like me to upload your videos to the German video websites, please let me know.
Thanks

exclamation marks - though some people do refer to them as bangs - usually when they are used in computer programming.
There are 3 old-time festivals in the UK - the others are when the weather is better. There are also numerous picking camps over the summer. The old-time scene in the UK is small but pretty active - we have an old-time session every week in bakewell, plus 2 monthly ones nearby - so there's plenty of playing. Be nice to meet you and play some tunes if you do come over.
An old-time festival?? Wow, that is waaaaay cool!! I just hadn't pictured that going on in the UK! We HAVE to come over to your place some time! (Do I use too many exclamation points?? What are those things called over in your neighborhood - bangs?)
Hey Steve, just posted a new fiddle/banjo tune that we recorded yesterday morning, and thought I'd pop in and let you know. Hope all is well with you folks!
