About me:

Nicholas Grabowsky’s novels of horror/fantasy, both as himself, as Nicholas Randers, and as Marsena Shane, have generated worldwide acclaim for over two decades and praised by many of today’s most popular horror gurus in the literary world. He began his career in traditional publishing houses with brisk sellers in mass market paperback horror, and the last ten years have seen him hailed by many as a mentor and advocate to the smaller presses, which has become to him a personal passion. His body of work includes the award-winning The Everborn, The Rag Man, Pray Serpent’s Prey, Halloween IV (and its special edition), Diverse Tales, Reads & Reviews, Red Wet Dirt, The Wicked Haze, Sweet Dreams Lady Moon, numerous anthologies and magazine articles, a Nancy Reagan biography, with projects extending to screenplays, poetry, songs, film, and a wide variety of short fiction and nonfiction since the 1980’s. He’s a veteran special guest at numerous genre conventions and makes appearances and signings across the United States. He has been in the limelight as a radical gospel preacher, a rock vocalist, teacher, lecturer and activist, editor, publisher and founder of the Sacramento-based Diverse Media small press, which blossomed into the subdivisions of Black Bed Sheet Books, which specializes in horror/fantasy as well as exemplary literature of all sorts, fiction & non,, and Black Bed Sheet Productions, which produces independent film. Currently, Nicholas is at work with numerous anthologies, graphic novels and comic books, an Everborn sequel and the novels The Downwardens and The Sirens of Knowland. His independent film projects includes the upcoming slasher creature feature Cutting Edges. .. .. WWW.DOWNWARDEN.COM----the official site of all things Grabowsky

"Grabowsky's writing is at times touching and emotional, however, his real talent is his ability to infuse his writing with a sense of dread and loathing that I have not experienced since H.P. Lovecraft....." ---Tahoe Daily Tribune

I am a delusionalist; I’ve been delusional since as far back as I can remember, around 1968 when I was just a tike and Captain Kangaroo was in black and white. In kindergarten, I convinced myself that I was a vampire, ran around at recess flapping my jacket around the playground like I was flying. My kindergarten teacher warned my mom that I was always after the girls. I would bite them on the arms. Around the third grade, I started writing stories, belting out church hymns at the top of my lungs on the playground swinging on the swings without an ounce of care, while in the next instant breaking a playmate’s arm for not believing that I was a vampire. Later in life, I was a Penticostal preacher, so to speak, and I tried to be a rock star at several points. I directed choirs, played in piano bars. My sister’s abduction and death ironically rescued me from a cluster of downward druggie years, but immersed me in karaoke hell for awhile. I love gardening. I used to sneak out of my parent’s house regularly when I was twelve to streak naked through parks at one in the morning when the automatic sprinklers turned on and I could run through them. I made it a monthly ritual growing up that I pretended my house was a grocery store and I made my family shop through it. I was a camp counselor, a religious counselor, a phone room sales manager, a college actor, a youth mentor, lived in a car, and currently live and run my publishing company, Black Bed Sheet Books, out of the Sacramento, CA area, making a living as a horror novelist, something I’ve been doing professionally for a couple of dozen years now with a few ups and downs but a good fan base around the world, something I’ll always be greatful for. I mean, no matter what I’ve done, I’ve always been a writer, through and through, since the day I became literate, and I’ve always had an audience of readers who really dig what I write, as dark and disturbing or fantastical as it’s always been. That’s been my life-long delusion, though it’s always seemed pretty real to me, and I’ll keep writing for others to read until the day I die. NOW LET ME HEAR FROM YOU ALL A HEARTY "AMEN" TO THAT!

HERE'S A GENERAL AUTHOR BIO FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GET TO THE POINT: Nicholas Grabowsky’s novels of horror/fantasy and mainstream pulp fiction, both as himself, as Nicholas Randers, and as Marsena Shane, have generated worldwide acclaim for over two decades and praised by many of today’s most popular horror gurus as well as a multitude of writers outside the genre in the literary world. He began his career in traditional publishing houses with brisk sellers in mass market paperback horror and romance, and the last ten years have seen him hailed by many as a mentor and advocate to the smaller presses, which has become to him a passion. His body of work includes the award-winning macabre aliens-among-us epic The Everborn, The Rag Man, Pray Serpent’s Prey, Halloween IV (and its special edition), Diverse Tales, Reads & Reviews, The Wicked Haze, Sweet Dreams Lady Moon, and June Park, numerous anthologies, magazine articles, and self help books, with projects extending to screenplays, poetry, songs, film, and a wide variety of short fiction and nonfiction since the 1980’s. He’s a veteran special guest at numerous genre conventions and makes appearances and signings across North America. He has been in the limelight as a radical gospel preacher right out of high school and in the following years a rock vocalist, teacher, lecturer and activist, editor, publisher and founder of the Sacramento-based Diverse Media small press, which has recently blossomed into the subdivisions of Black Bed Sheet Press, which publishes local talent, and Black Bed Sheet Productions, which produces independent film. Currently, Nicholas is at work with numerous anthologies, graphic novels and comic books, an Everborn sequel and the novels The Downwardens and The Sirens of Knowland. His independent film projects include the upcoming slasher creature feature Cutting Edges, as well as co-writing the independent film Into the Basement, for Triad Pictures.

Who I'd like to meet:

Anyone who writes and is interested in the kind of stuff I write, and pretty much anyone like-minded.....musicians, publishers, film makers, particularly those of a dark nature, but everyone's welcome! I'm also a strong advocate and mentor to many talented writers, publishers and editors associated with independent presses and publications. All I read lately is predominantly from small press, and most of the best genre talent out there are the ones still struggling to make it!

Nicholas moonlighted as bestselling romance author Marsena Shane from 1988-1990 for University Books/Carol Publishing/Critic's Choice Paperbacks/a few others...his reason was he needed the extra cash...his publisher insisted a woman's name would sell better....he did self help books and even a Nancy Reagan bio (a work-for-hire that really sucked but paid the rent for a few months)....
