In the beginning Ryan, Hamish, Lochie and OTHERS were created with awesome talent.
On the 2nd day they found Gasman.
On the 3rd day they formed a band.
On the 4th day they tried to play
On the 5th day they realised the problem
On the 6th day they kicked Gasman
On the 7th day they found Jason/Saxon/Blair and now they are awesome
The seed for Down With Melons was planted when Ryan and Hamish began talking of forming a band. With a guitarist and a singer, all we needed was everything else...
Anyway months later the original line-up of the band assembled in a garage for our first practice; Ryan on guitar, Lochie on guitar (having picked it up just 2 months before), Geoffrey Gaskell on, erm, drums, Daniel on bass and that singer guy(the legendary HAMISH) who couldnt really sing.
It was a disaster; Lochie repeated the fucking riff from "A Crow Left Of the Murder", because it was all he could play; Ryan had a shitty 10 watt amplifier that you couldnt even hear above passing traffic; Hamish could barely hold a note (Back then anyway), and geoff was...Geoff. We would start a song at about 100 bpm and finish on 225, put it that way. Thats if we finished the song at all.
Anyways after months of practice we were sounding alright so we entered the Clarence High Talent Quest along with a group of talented vocalist's to perform "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" which if nothing else, was a crowd pleaser.
Two years, two drummers and a bassist later, Down With Melons have re-invented themselves. They have invited Blair Reardon, an energetic youngster who makes our rheumatoid flair, to join them on bass, and his solo/funk stylings have given a new edge to our already classic sound. When Jason Graham of Troll's infamy left the band to persue a budding movie career as Mel Gibson, we ordered in another infant that we snatched- the ridicously tall Saxon. His punk-rock drums give our now infallable sound a bit of grit and bite.
So, as of the day after Rosnystock 2007, the current line-up consists of what you see here. Lochie can now wail on both guitar and sax, his original riffs being the foundation upon which our great songs are mainly built, Blair amazes us with his harmonic bass, despite the fact that we'll usually turn it down, Hamish has become an inspirational singer and a great frontman, Saxon is just plain awesome, and Ryan continues to cut loose with awesome original riffs and lead breaks, whilst also "cutting loose" Tommy Chonz by taking the step up to back up vox. We hope you enjoy our sound, and if you can, drop us a line either in person, on this site, or on one of the partner sites below. Famincos Meloni Forever!
Thankyou, we recorded right in the comfort of Callum's house. Using shitty equipment we bought. If anyone's reading this and they'd like to give us some studio time, message us. :):):)
