Dox' Family is the 'song' division of Dox Records. The other devision is called 1000 Years of Jazz, a part for us freaky improv musicians. Dance stuff, jazz and more.
SNIPPET HISTORY:
While 1000 Years of Jazz is, in a way, originally represented by the bands Sfeq and New Cool Collective (two major Dutch instrumental bands), Dox' Family has come across since the legendary Benny Sings joined.
NEW BREATH:
Benny Sings caused a major swing for the label. A truly new division, with hiphop flavored hippie songs, for babies, children, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers. Together with producers as Suèr & Tippet, and Wouter Hamel, he creates many songs for the Dox' Family. They all record and sing themselves, but they also launch new artists, performing their stuff.
Benny Sings as a new artist, inspired friends and fans. Today many of them have joined his happy music making business in Amsterdam. Giovanca, Hamel, Roos, Les Frogs, Grey Boy, Stije, Charlene, Rednose Distrikt (the Kindred Spirits recording producers), Easy aloha's, Harco Pront (the hidden genious) etc.
The so called house band of our label is Dox Orchestra, our customized orchestra, intelligent, with a cool jazzy dance trademark.
This band started while legendary master of soul, Leon Ware, re-arranged and mixed his masterpieces. He made a come back that appealed to young R&B audiences in the Netherlands and head-lined at the Montreux Festival, Nice Jazz festival and North Sea Jazz Festival. The Dox Orchestra evolved as a backing band for Wares refurbished material, featuring a great variety of instrumentalists, deejays and singers. Terry Callier, Michael Franti, NDambi, Carl Craig, Sandra St. Victor, Jazzanova, Roos, Paul, Wouter Hamel, Benny Sings, Dean Tippet, Grey Boy and Carleen Anderson, among many others.
Like The Funk Brothers for Motown Records, and Ramsey Lewis for Chess Records, Dox Orchestra has distinctive Dox sound. The orchestra produces jazzy renditions, remixes and interpretations of funk and soul music, as well as its own repertoire.
DOX'FAMILY NIGHT:
To boost the new storm of musical depth, Dox Records initiated Dox'Family Night. A brand new fresh evening and nightfilling atmosphere, fresh of the 2006 introduction in the Sugarfactory in Amsterdam. A monthly night, where not only Dox artists as wel as musical friends and family take centerstage. Things will be kicked off in Happy Hour fashion at 21h. Under guidance of the Easy Aloha's, new jazzy crossovers, rocky hiphop, lolita ballads and kitch and catchy stories will be mixed up. Bring friends and fam' to take the HOP into Dox'Family!
