MusicOhhh, well... Wildhearts, Hellacopters, Supershit 666, The Music (much missed), The Answer, Backyard Babies, Ash, Eno, Steely Dan, anything the Anonymous Four have done, Hildegard Von Bingen, June Tabor, Telemann (and some really obvious Mozart)... Aphex Twin, Orbital (also much missed, bless them),Jason and the Scorchers... as to more, well... urm.... just started listening to Boom Boom Satellites and a lot of J-rock generally, but really too many bands and creators to mention.
MoviesAny Satoshi Kon and Studio Ghibli... Thought 'Paprika' was very interesting... and after that, well, my choices are varied and... well, I like a biiiig range of stuff basically, but with tremendous weakness for fantasy and science fiction... Been watching a lot of anime series on DVD recently. Quite disappointed with Chevalier D'Eon, but did take to Witch Hunter Robin, Noein and Samauri Champloo.
TelevisionDr Who, Heroes, Life on Mars. Not seeing much tv. Not been home much. Still find House worth the bother. Torchwood just silly, although James Masters always a welcome sight.
BooksI adored Bryan Talbot's 'Alice in Sunderland', Meg Rossoff's 'Just In Case', 'Tales of the Otori' and 'Here Lies Arthur'. Have bad thing for most of Wilkie Collins, as well, and Mary Braddon...
HeroesSerena, Sam, David, Bryan, Neil, Grant... any kitty that wanders by and decides humans are mad (that being all of them)... an ambulatory sofa called Harry... Danny the rock star (another horse... don't get excited)

   Mel's Blurbs
About me:
I love music, like going to the gym, dance if given the option (whether or not anyone is watching), read comics, manga and graphic novels (and spend a big part of my working life sharing that passion... for which have a look at http://www.dr-mel-comics.co.uk/) and ride horses sometimes (but have only recently started on the latter, so don't expect any tips beyond try to hope you are not coming off in the next ten seconds, and more seriously, please be reassured that you will get better at it. Honest). I also read and work with novels, for folk of all ages (and picture books). Sometimes I leave the house... I write non-fiction and work as a lecturer (on media, literature, childhood and 'visual literacies'). When not doing that I'm involved in a range of comics related projects, some educational, some training, and all for the sheer joy of sharing books I love with people.
Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone interested in comics, books and music (the latter predominantly rock of various kinds...)

Hey Mel! I didn't realise you were based in the UK. What's it like up in Newcastle? I really enjoyed that panel in Leeds.
Maybe see you again at the next comic event!

Time for a poem...

Robert Frost up first

"Acquainted with the Night"

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
A luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.
