Milking the cranial harp.
Some adjectives used by more vocal audience members: big, fuzzy, full, sweaty, psychedelic, wall of sound, "not as loud as Mogwai."
Some folks said parts of DPU! reminds them of: The Who, Built to Spill, The Pixies, Yes (first album), Pavement, Sonic Youth, St. Paul (the city), The Beta Band, The Flaming Lips, And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, "Post Rock if post rock didn't suck," Fugazi, The Cure, "Stoner rock that you don't have to be stoned to enjoy."
Frankly, we don't know. Your input is always appreciated.
Dragons Power Up! is a rock band from St. Paul, Minnesota, formed in 2005 by multi-instrumentalists Mike Coyne, Dan Ries, Mike Ries, and Chris Tures.
They play rock music and look like this:
In 2006, they released their first album (250 copies), “This Way to Gunshire.” Their second full-length, "Brace for the Bloom" was completed in the summer of 2009 with a projected autumn release. Whereas their first release was a fuzzy, sweaty basement production, "...Bloom" has been recorded slowly over 2 years, across three studios, and captured the sound of the band gelling as songwriters, collaborators and arrangers.
"This Way to Gunshire" can be gotten online, right here:
WHAT SOME FOLKS SAID ABOUT "THIS WAY TO GUNSHIRE (2006)"
"This is balls-to-the-wall, no-bullshit, real rock and roll" - Pulse of the Twin Cities
"With a serpentine, low-fi sound coiled round a flaming pile of reverb sits Dragons Power Up!, a Minneapolis-based beast of a band with one mission - to rock." - Perfect Porridge
"This Way to Gunshire…, is testament to their fun, distorted, rock-and-roll view of the world. Consisting of enough twists and turns to get even the most gallant knight lost on his way to save a princess" - Lunch Of Champions
"Obnoxious dance punk meets garage rock in some sort of slutty alleyway in which these genres finger fuck each other into oblivion....To be fair, I totally didn’t give this band a fair shake but fuck them—they’re punk rock they should be able to bounce back well enough." - Smother.net
That one isn't positive, but awesome, no?

I just wanted to stop by and wish you a happy Saturday! May the weekend bring you fun adventures, relaxation, and total contentment :)
I was going to go camping this weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends are gonna go check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.
Anyways, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a series of one time only performance art pieces. This one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.
Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.
Here's the info:
Blood Root Mother - "An Object to Crave" w/ The Magnetrons & Thought Thieves Friday, October 16th Station 4 201 E 4th St St Paul, MN 55101 9pm / $5 / 18+
His Mischief ruled, but Arms Akimbo and that other horrible band were a couple of the most pretentious and douchey outfits I've ever had the displeasure of seeing.
Talk about bullshit...
The all-ages show (and venue) were superior to the late show.
Sauce is awesome, but the cliental was wack. Soundguy and bartender ruled though!
