Draugen a été formé en décembre 2000 par Ghost et Okda Naos afin de jouer un style inspiré par la scène norvégienne, ce qui frappe largement à l'écoute des premières compositions.Par la suite, le duo inclura beaucoup plus d'influences progressives qui viennent de leur passé musical, qui n'était pas nécessairement "metal extrême".

Au niveau du concept, Draugen décrit la solitude et la mélancolie ressentie dans la société moderne ainsi que la volonté d'échapper à ce monde en se retirant dans des lieux abandonnés, et finalement utilise la métaphore de la mort comme retraite spirituelle finale.

Pendant longtemps, à la recherche de son propre son et style, le groupe a réalisé deux démos, seulement données à des amis, et n'a jamais réalisé la moindre prestation scénique. Ghost a toujours été réticent à l'idée de jouer en public à cause de sa haine farouche de la foule, de plus le groupe a toujours travaillé en duo jusqu'en 2011 où deux membres de session ont été recruté dans le but de faire malgré tout les concerts.

De 2001 à 2004 une quinzaine de titres ont été composé:
2001-2003 : premier album (Among the Lonely Shades)
2003-2004: deuxième album (en préparation)

Le style a évolué d'un black lent et dépressif à ses débuts (2001-2003) vers quelque chose de plus intense et mélodique (2003-2004)

Après quelques années de pause, les deux membres se réveillent et retravaillent leurs premières compositions, avant de se concentrer sur du nouveau materiel, afin de faire définitivement taire les vieux démons du passé.

Draugen n'a jamais voulu enregistrer son premier album avec un son "démo" et prétendre que cela sonnait "true black metal". La volonté d'améliorer constamment le son et la performance a retardé considérablement la sortie de l'album.

En septembre 2009, le groupe commence (enfin) l'enregistrement de "Among the Lonely Shades" qui contiendra donc des riffs vieux d'une dizaine d'années et qui sera complètement auto-produit. Après une décennie d'existence, le "fantôme de la mer" est prêt à lacher sa colère...

Draugen was formed in december 2000 by Ghost & Okda Naos in order to play a style inspired by Norwegian bands, what strikes first at the listenning of the first compositions.

Through their musical background and influences, which are not necessary extreme metal, Draugen describes the melancholy and solitude felt in the modern society and the will to escape that world. It also express the will to retire in abandoned places and finally uses the death metaphore as a final spiritual retreat.

During a long time, looking for its own sound and touch, the band released two demos only given to friends and it has never done the slightest live show.
And this for two reasons:
Ghost has always been reluctant to perform live because of his fierce hatred of the crowd, morever the band better works as a duo and both members don't feel the need to recruit someone else.
But in 2011, two session member are recruited in order to make live appearance

From 2001 to 2004 about fifteen tracks were composed:
2001-2003: First album (Among the Lonely Shades)
2003-2004: Previous second Album

The style changed from a slow and depressive one at the beginning to a more intense one with melodic parts.
After two years of a break, the duo wakes up and re-works the early tracks, before working on new material, thus to make definitly the old demons shut up.

Draugen never wanted to record its first album with a crappy sound and claim that sounds "TRUE BLACK METAL" and our will to improve constantly the sound and skill delayed the release of the album by far.

In september 2009 the band begins (at last) to record their first album " Among the Lonely Shades" containing recycled riffs from the 2001 period and wich is 100% auto produced.
After almost ten years of existence the "Sea Ghost" is ready to unleashed its wrath.
