  • Bio

"Simon’s music has a deeply relaxing effect on the mind and soul of the listener. His music written in the company of Adi Da resonates deeply in my heart, as his carefully chosen words and harmonies come from the heart of his contemplation and depth of his process with his Guru. It is a gift to be able to share this with others in a way that can communicate beyond the mind directly to the heart of the listener. In this way, Draw Mountains There has a healing effect on the listener. A sense of home that’s native to every human being emanates from its simplicity." - by Felix Woldenberg....................................... respect:[http://daplastique.com/ ~ http://bell-sounds-digital.com/ ~ http://woodenfoundations.com/ ~ http://www.myspace.com/realityitself) .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. Simon Llewelyn Evans completed the recording of his debut album, with the help of Dave Steel and Tiffany Eckhardt around June 2008. He is truly heart-grateful for their friendship and loving support. And to the stream of musicians that contribute to creating music with him. The album "draw mountains There" and his latest record: "Collaborations with Simon Evans and Aaron Nakagawa" is now available on cdbaby. ......................here is a short, light-hearted, romantic film directed by Peter Muizulis, from Wood Fired Films, starring Simon Evans :: .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ............Simon Evans is a special phenomenon. When 18 years old, he already felt the maturity to leave his parental home in Victoria, Au, to trade for an independant existance at Melbourne. But also Melbourne did not last to interest him, so he decides to move to the South, direction pacific Ocean, so he could deepen his spiritual growth on a sacred island in the neighbourhood of a divers paradise in the Koro Sea for three years. With only a Spanish acoustic Guitar he laid out the fundamentals for his first record. Thanks to all those years of meditative training and a heap of spiriual experiences he felt that the time was ripe to come back to the main land to express his inner self to the outside world. At 27 years of age, and regardless of his seclusion on an island, far away from modern gadgets and the pressure of our society, Simon Evans has accomplished amazingly a very esoteric album that renders an almost hypnotical peacefulness. With the simplicity of instruments that includes acoustic guitar, subtly supported by mandolin , mouth organ and accordeon and a heavenly sounding slide guitar, he knows how to bring perfect nuances together with the beautiful harmonious voice of Tiffany Eckhardt. Less is often more, and this is what Simon Evans understood very well. Only by means of his voice and guitar , he lets us sink into the intimate lyrics of the opening song "Woman At A Mountain" supported by the soft satin sounds of a slide. Slow and subtle this song evolves and eroticises a beautiful pair of bodies in embrace. With 'Balcony", Simon positions himself next to a great being as Damien Rice with a similar color of voice and vocal control It is beautiful how some sentences are sung in a sighing whispering ending. The most sensitive moment is created by the title song "Draw Mountains" in which Tiffany Eckhardt's voice meets you as a cooling mountain breeze. Eyes closed, headphones up, you can let yourself be carried away through grass green valleys in the middle of a mountain range that are the guardians of the tomb of the beloved. This piece has such an intoxicating quality that one does not realize that the only verse of the song is used as the refrain and is repeated twice after a slide guitar interludium, a trick that works very well and also gets a follow up in almost every other following song on the album. In "No Horse" here is just a moment of raising his voice to cool his anger over a lost romance, but Simon resorts quickly back to his favorite slow and sensual rhythm. To hypnotise the people with a repetitive text and a moving voice, that is his trade mark. Sometimes he does not need more then 3 words to move you, as in the Aboriginal "Arun I Chun" but sometimes he erupts sharply and to the point as in "Rotten Pimp Daddy". This is a strong piece of work for a debut album that will move for sure the romantic souls amongst us. Do you want to inhale some of the paradisiacal island in the pacific ocean, then the buy of this cd is worth while. Close your eyes and enjoy. ------ review by Blowfish @ Rootstime Magazine, Belgium. www.rootstime.be
