Biography
Juanita Bynum was born on January 16, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois. She was born to Elder Thomas and Katherine Bynum. As a child, her parents always made sure that she and her siblings went to church every week at their home church, St. Luke Church of God in Christ. Bynum attended Saints Academy Church of God in Christ High School in Lexington, Mississippi.
Although Juanita had been preaching since the 1980s, it was not until the 1990s that she became known internationally. Bishop T.D. Jakes invited Juanita to attend one of his Singles Conferences. In 1998, she rose from attendee to speaker. In 1998, she preached "No More Sheets," telling single and miserably married women how to break free of sexual problems. This sermon catapulted her into international popularity. Ever since, Bynum's fiery and no-nonsense sermons have made her a demand for many Christian Conferences and events.
According to Ministries Today, Juanita was an outgoing child. Her charisma became apparent to those outside her immediate realm, when she landed a starring role in her middle school's production of My Fair Lady. Her performance grabbed the attention of television show agents who wanted to cast her in programs similar to Julia, starring Diahann Carroll. Juanita's mother, however, declined the offers. "I used to make her stop playing outside and come in the house and just sit still," she told Ministries Today. "I wanted my daughter to listen to the voice of God," she added.
Though she later admitted in Ministries Today, "Every time I got on my knees I kept hearing [God] say, 'Before I knew you, I formed you in your mother's womb to be a prophet to the nations,'" she struggled in her youth to obey instructions from God. Still, Juanita had hopes of being a servant. She attended Saints Academy of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) high school in Lexington, Mississippi and graduated second in her class. Soon after her graduation, Juanita, still a teenager, began preaching at churches and revivals. Eventually, she traveled to Port Huron, Michigan, to minister for pastor William T. Nichols and his wife, and ended up on an unanticipated journey that changed the course of her life.
As one of the most sought after evangelical conference speakers on the local, national and international circuits, Dr. Juanita Bynum II espouses a tough-as-nails doctrine of sanctification, integrity and the literal application of Biblical principles to everyday life.
