Dreadheads has been nominated for a "Stony" Award for Best Documentary by High Times magazine. Producer and Co-Director Steve Hurlburt and Co-Director Flournoy Holmes will be going to BB King's in New York on October 24th for the 6th annual "Stony" Awards. In Dreadheads, funky white kidsgroovers on Gaia and ganja, the spiritual progeny of Kerouac and Garciaknot up their hair and go in search of song, sun and transcendence, casting off the 9-to-5 for a 24/7 celebration of their own American Dream: Freedom, The Road, The Feast of Friends. Shot in gritty super-8 film and crisp digital tape in locations ranging from Maine to California, the films quick cuts, jagged angles and artful editing deliver the scene with an audacious eye. As the improv, jam-based soundtrack evolves, several dreaddie archetypes (the wounded artist, the drunk and high-lifer, the spiritual seeker) and dozens of others share stories of musical transcendence, confrontations with straight society, battles with the fearsome head lice, and what its like living the outsider life in Bushs Americaall with humor, wit, and earnest intensity. Also making appearances are academics, pop culture observers and musicians (Bob Weir, Dave Schools, Jimmy Herring, John Bell) from the bands who energize and empower the modern-day, ragtag gypsy wagon-train that follows them across the country.
