Dream Awake

Bio:

Josh Wilkinson, founder of international touring act Dream Awake, is an Australian/Canadian currently living and performing in Toronto, Canada .

While playing professionally and touring the globe for the last decade, Wilkinson has earned himself a reputation as one of the world’s top 12-string guitarists with a strong, characteristic voice and a high energy live performance.

Stylistically, the music of Dream Awake sits comfortably under the contemporary Rock umbrella, while maintaining deep Celtic Folk roots and revealing hints of Gypsy, Flamenco and even softer Metal influences.

In recent years Wilkinson has released three critically acclaimed albums as Dream Awake and played innumerable pubs, clubs and festivals throughout Australia, Europe and North America.

The new Dream Awake single “DNA” was revealed to the public in Sep 2012 as a preview for the long awaited album “For those of little dust”, scheduled for release in early 2013.

“Yet another great release from a confident, intelligent & original trio with a strong sense of themselves despite their youth - not afraid to shine in the face of so much contemporary rock mediocrity.”

..From ‘Temporary Shore’ EP review by Bradfield Dumpleton for Indie-CDs.com, Jan 08

“The music moves dynamically with clever lyrics, flawless key changes and smooth time and tempo changes. I'd expect this level of production from Sony BMG, not an independently released record.”
..From ‘Temporary Shore’ EP review by Vincent Giles for http://melbourne.citysearch.com.au (Furst Media), Jan 08

“Their sound has been described as acoustic folk rock, but that really does little justice to the startling maturity of their innovative music…Listening to this music I feel the majesty of an eagle soaring through an infinite sky.”
..From 'THE KEY TREE' EP review by Bradfield Dumpleton for Indie-CDs.com, August ’07

“The front man is an exceptional guitarist and can be compared to classic Blues and Roots artists such as Jeff Lang and John Butler”
..From Live review by Garrett Bithell & Claire Jarrett for the Indie Initiative, The Brag, Nov ‘05

“The singer has a fine, distinctive voice and the delivery showed both he strength and subtlety to do justice to the songs. The bass player and drums powered it along, reminding me of English bands such as Fairport Convention…Young musicians playing with soul and conviction.”
..From Live Review by Neil Wedd for the Indie Initiative, Inpress, June '06

“I can imagine ships departing to these songs, the timeless style lends itself to epic journeys”
..From ‘The Smokey Mirror’ Demo Review, TAS Music Press, July ‘05
