Seriously though, I love reading and writing. Outside of that, I like biking, hiking, playing on the Wii, and doing anything to improve myself.
I've also become really interested in politics lately. I really can't explain why because there aren't many politicians I respect.
Music
I listen to pretty much anything. When I write, I prefer intense rock music or contemporary orchestral works. I often find myself listening to music that fits the scene I am writing for. Doing so forces me to really enter the scene. Most of the time this is exactly what I need. However, occasionally I need to feel detached from the characters and the situation, so I'll listen to something completely off.
Movies
I personally think my books read almost as if you're sitting there and "reading a movie" so to speak. As such, I have been influenced by many movies over the years.
Chronicles of Riddick, The Matix, The Patriot, Gladiator, The Green Mile, Dead Poet's Society, Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman, National Treasure, ... The list goes on.
Television
I only watch TV as sort of a break and love Family Guy, Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Cops, Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
Books
I love my own books of course, but I still have to bow to people such as Isaac Asimov, J. K. Rowling, Stephen King, and authors of the like.
Heroes
I can't honestly say that I have any heroes. It's not that there isn't anyone worthy of the title, but I've never actually viewed anyone in that light.
I am willing to help other authors edit their work in even exchange for attempting to edit my material.

About me: I am K. W. Matthews and I am an author working hard to make a lasting impression on the world of literature. Although I write genre fiction, I like to think that the themes and ideas that are brought to the table are just as lasting and powerful as any found in contemporary or literary fiction.
I am currently working on what I call the Dreamscape Saga. The first book in the series is complete, and I am looking for representation. In the next month or two, the second book should be complete while the third waits in outline form.
The Dreamscape Saga
In the wake of the great wars, the world looked for a savior and found it in the mighty corporations that ran the global economy. The corporations saved man, gave him jobs, gave him security, and gave him stability, but it was not meant to last.
One corporation, whose name has long since been forgotten, quickly came to dominate all others and offered a pathway for man to expand into the stars. It operated as a government and increased its power more and more with each passing day. By the time the rest of the world grew concerned with its doings, it was too late.
Without firing a single shot, the Corporation took control of the world. Many resisted, and they were injected with the Serum, a dreadful injection that had the ability to remove one's higher brain functions. As time wore on, more and more people were injected and made into slaves until only the highest individuals of all were left free.
Even under the cloudy influence of the Serum, the human mind was not content serving another. Using nothing but blind instinct, the masses rose up against their oppressors in a fruitless attempt at freedom. Again, it was too late. The Corporation was too powerful and simply could not be stopped. To squelch any other would-be rebellions, they created the Dreamscape, a device that allowed the slaves the ability to live a life of their choosing as they slept while manipulating their mind to deter any inclination toward rebellion or resistance.
With everything against him, Man still would not submit. After an accident rendered their stockpiles of the Serum ineffective, the crew a colony ship well outside of Corporate territory came to realize what their leaders had done, and so they fought. They formed the Order in the hopes of destroying the entity that had destroyed humanity. Their efforts may seem useless, but they would not let that deter them from their goal.
Mazakai the Oracle: The Curse of Excalibur
This is the story of the young Thomas Marlow, a child of no extraordinary talents until he wakes one night by a terrible racket. The boy steps onto the lawn only to see his father killed before his very eyes. Torn with grief, Thomas is then thrown into the world of sorcery and magic to become what he was destined to become and to ultimately face off with the evil that killed his father. As he prepares for the confrontation, he is given a gift to help ward off the evil, a gift that may defeat him before his enemies have the chance.
Mazakai the Oracle: Mindfire
As Thomas begins to come to terms with his newfound powers as the Oracle of the Gateworld, life finally begins to settle down into a state of normality. All was well until a menace breaks into the school and kills several students. While the world panics over the danger Thomas' presence could cause, the young man discovers that his battle against his father's killer is far from over. Despite everything on his side, he is seeing that this will be an uphill battle with many enemies and few allies.
Mazakai the Oracle: Fall of Eternity
The very foundation of the Gateworld has shattered and everyone is thrown into a state of panic. After two years of being the hunted, Thomas completes his training as the Oracle and decides the only way to set things right is to become the hunter and end the conflict with his father's killer once and for all.
Mazakai the Destroyer: Seeds of Evil
Before his death at the hands of Thomas Marlow, Sapoia, the Abomination, left behind a pregnant woman. Investigating the matter, Thomas sees that the child is growing at an unprecidented speed and is bent on nothing less than the destruction of Thomas Marlow. As his friends turn their backs on him Thomas must find his strength and a way to destroy Sapoia's spawn, or face his death.

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!
There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.
Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."
And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."
Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror novel SACRIFICE is now in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten so far:
“SACRIFICE is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend SACRIFICE.” —Famous Monsters of Filmland
“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes

You mentioned being a perfectionist. I am, too. With my novel I had to tell myself, "the story is good as it stands," and that the ONLY changes I would make would be spelling and continuity errors. Now I begin the query process and see if anyone else agrees with me. LOL
