Dreamsploitation is the moniker for Chuck Blazevic - a 23 year old composer, multi-instrumentalist, record collector and lover of honesty and detail. Dreamsploitation began out of the desire to work in a self-sufficient DIY setting that would maximize creativity/imagination. Consequently, Dreamsploitation's debut album, 'The Soft Focus Sound of Today', is created from dozens upon dozens of carefully arranged micro-samples from beautiful lost recordings as well as acoustic audio sources from Blazevic's own instrument playing - All of which are heavily manipulated, transposed and re-contextualized into an ultra-melodic tapestry of soft-psychedelia, b-movie orchestral back drops, dusty drums, and loud quiet sounds.

The aim of 'The Soft Focus Sound of Today' was "to take micro-samples of specific timbres found on unique 60's/70's productions and re-arrange them into new melodic compositions with an emphasis on dense harmonic combinations, melodic counterpoint, and condensed 'time lapse' style arrangements. Consequently, the rhythmic content is varied - from 5/8 jazzy patterns to dusty (messy) breaks to no drums at all!" The reference to 'the soft focus sound' is self-referential commentary on the cloudy production of the record - due to the heavy layering of old audio sources and the damage from the physical medium itself.

Chuck Blazevic can also be found playing guitar on tracking sessions/live performances with The Heavy Blinkers [Cooking Vinyl USA, Endearing CAN] and penning film scores in Halifax.

Dreamsploitation's sound aesthetic falls somewhere into the splintered new music category of forward looking/backwards facing artists who bridge the gap between the past and the future - occupied by artists such as Caribou, Four Tet, Stereolab, J Dilla, Daedelus, Broadcast, Colleen, Tape, Sylvain Chauveau and other progressive/eclectic electronic, modern classical, hip hop and avant pop composers.
