Mr. Tom Hodges, Jr., my Grandfather He taught me to question, assert myself & be unapologetically Black. He was a Griot in the old world, the first world tradition. my charge in this life is to tell my GrandDaddy's stories, honor His name & be worthy of His blood.
Mrs. Minnie Lou Hodges, my Grandmother, She taught me that money making is not the measure of a man & that there is power in submission & to play my position. most importantly, She married my GrandDaddy for me.
Mr. Charles Preston Harris, my uncle. He planted & cultivated in me the arts (especially poetry), history, philosophy & politics. @ 9 He gave & quizzed me on the Autobiography of Malcolm X & then Iceberg Slim's Trick Baby. His credo " a wise man teaches a few but everyone teaches a wise man. class is always in session".
the late esteemed Elder Gwendolyn Brooks, She convinced me to lay down the moniker "African-American" for Black cuz it defines us across the globe.
BROTHERS cuz if The Creator created anything better than You all, i ain't seent or heard tell of it yet.

Hey guys!!! Glad to be in touch; thanks for being a friend!
Virgogray Press is an indie publisher, proudly making chapbooks and presenting the world with fresh poetry from genuine voices. We're just wanting to add to the many great works out there and are happy to be part of the literary movement! We are currently accepting manuscript submisssion for chapbook publication, but not for long. On Dec. 1, 2009, we will no longer be taking submissions for chapbook length manuscripts becuase we already have plenty of great poets to come in 2010, but we are still accepting general poetry submissions for other publications, so if you are a poet who wants to have your work published, or maybe wants others to read your work in the form of a publication, check out our website for details and maybe you can hop along with the Virgogray Press familiy, too!
Thanks again, and have a great week!!!
We just put up our entire catalogue-- go ahead and take a look!!
