Dr El Suavo has been warping minds in various guises since he was on radio in 1990. Now he chooses to appear around the place at the oddest of times to entertain punters in the live situation. His theme night, 'Exotica', first appeared in 1997 and pops it's head up around Melbourne on a regular basis.
An evening with the Dr is like stepping back in time and being in Las Vegas. CLASS, with a twist! Magic, music and film make up the Dr's show which is like no other. Spinning rock'n'roll, lounge, novelty, rat pack, soul, trucking, TV & film, surf guitar, swamp, advertising tunes and a lot more. On top of this he accompanies his music by playing a therermin! Whislt Djing he often screens whacky film trailers, old educational films, adverts and more. On top of this he is a master of illusion. Australia’s premier parlour magician!
He has a style all of his own!
Dr El Suavo has toured Australia, America, Canada and New Zealand. He has shared the stage with Tom Green, Secret Chiefs 3, Neil Hamburger, Steve O, Turbonegro, Blowfly, Suicide Girls, Nashville Pussy, Dead Moon, Wolfmother, Regurgitator, Canned Hamm, Hard Ons and many more. He also featured on the 2005 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
He is proudly sponsored by Bernard's Magic Shop and is available for weddings, kids parties, wakes, 21st Birthdays. ANYTHING! He has to pay off endless legal debts from when he was a leader of a secret 'cult'.
WARNING: THIS IS A STRICTLY ADULTS ONLY SHOW. THOSE EASILY OFFENDED SHOULD GET A LIFE!
Who I'd like to meet: Alien lifeforms. Oh, and Jerry Lewis!
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
