About me: Dr. Barry Eppley is one of the Midwest's most extensively trained and unique plastic surgeons. Dr. Eppley received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Washington University in St. Louis as well as a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He completed training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Barnes Hospital, and additional training in Head and Neck Surgery at St. John’s Hospital while in St. Louis. He furthered his training in General Surgery, Craniofacial and Cleft Surgery as well as full training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Indiana University. As a result of his education, Dr. Eppley is both a licensed physician and dentist and certified by the American Boards of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This background brings a diverse experience and perspective to the requirements needed for complex facial reconstructions from congenital defects and traumatic injuries as well as cosmetic surgery of the face and body.
Dr. Eppley is a former faculty member of University Plastic Surgeons, a group based on the campus of Indiana University in Indianapolis, where he attained the distinction of Professor of Plastic Surgery at the School of Medicine. He spent nearly 20 years involved in the Craniofacial and Cleft Program at the Riley Hospital for Children, one of North America’s largest children’s hospitals and most active centers for the surgical treatment of facial birth defects.
He is also co-founder of OLOGY, a unique hospital-based spa concept combining eastern ayuravedic therapies with conventional western medicine in the hospitals of Clarian North (Carmel, IN) and Clarian West (Avon, IN) in the surrounding Indianapolus suburban area. This is where he entered into private practice in 2006. Dr. Eppley has prominent international experience in the investigation and development of numerous technologic advances in plastic surgery. He maintains active research projects at Indiana University in the various aspects of hard and soft tissue healing. He has been the recipient of numerous National Institute of Health and private corporate research grants for the evaluation of promising surgical technologies and implants. As a result, he has been awarded nine U.S. and international patents on biomedical technologies.
His research and clinical efforts have resulted in extensive contributions to the surgical literature including over 250 journal articles and 35 book chapters. He is a nationally and internationally sought after speaker on numerous plastic surgery topics. He has given over 220 presentations in 24 countries over the past 16 years.
