Half boy half amazing, Andrew Parks p/k/a DREW32, a 17 year old incoming senior at Avondale High School in Auburn Hills, Michigan, is poised to set the world stage and airways on fire with his lyric spinning prowess behind the mic and his brilliant beat-making energy at the boards. This disarmingly smooth and handsome Greek-American teen already a near veteran at his craft, laid the foundation for his career at the age of 10 when he recorded his first record, “Pray for Peace (We Need Love)” – a tribute to the victims of 911. By age 12 he had committed himself to pursuing a career in music and connected with a burgeoning Pontiac, Michigan rapper and finalist on VH-1’s “Freestyle 59” contest by the name of Jay Hussle. Drew’s association with Hussle not only inspired him creatively but under Jay’s tutelage, Drew’s sound began to mature and his focus on music kicked into gear.
What Drew’s parents thought might be a short-lived hobby; music became Drew’s central passion eventually overshadowing his immense love for the game of basketball. He in fact took 32 as the tag on his name as homage to the legendary point guard Earvin “Magic” Johnson. But music was no passing fancy. As Drew’s focus narrowed he began to collect a following and became a staple performer at several suburban Detroit events then in early 2007 the then 15 year old took his book of rhymes and collection of beats and grinded out his first full length album in the studio he set up in his bedroom closet, “Awakening” – a 14 track odyssey through Drew’s journey into manhood with chronicles of his sophomore school year spun into the thematic backdrop. “Awakening” dropped in June 2007. He celebrated with a release party at the Troy Community center in his neighborhood then, still on an adrenalin-high from his debut, he competed in the teen rap preliminary round of the Spotlight Detroit talent show, advancing to the semi finals after being selected by a team of judges including Swifty McVay of D-12. Eventually he went on to take top prize in that competition performing at the Ribs-N-Soul Festival in Hart Plaza. Later that month Drew appeared on stage at the International Freedom Festival and Fireworks at Hart Plaza’s Main Amphitheatre in downtown Detroit, opening for Kiki Palmer at the Radio Disney show. The beginning of the school year found Drew performing at the Atlantis Music Conference as part of the Remix Hotel Producer Convention in Atlanta, Georgia where he hob-knobbed with the industry’s top music tastemakers.
Proud of his Greek heritage, Drew32 in June 2008 began producing and hosting a weekly Hip Hop internet show entitled “Destination Detroit” for Mango Radio Urban, broadcast from Athens, Greece. With the support of Mango and Urban2u.com, Drew traveled to Athens where he booked two shows at the prestigious nightclubs Akrotiri Boutique and Giselle where he performed to jam-packed houses. Upon returning to the states, amped from the journey he’d taken, Drew allocated all of his free time outside of school to recording in his home studio where the beginnings of his next LP began to take shape. In July 2009 he shot his first music video for the lead single, “Beyond Me”, off of his sophomore release. Produced by Drew32, “Beyond Me” was mixed by Dr Dre’s and Eminem’s mix engineer Richard “Segal” Heredia in Los Angeles. The music video was produced and directed by former Bad Boy Entertainment Director of Management, Andrena Hale. The single and video were released mid July 2009. The video received over 2000 hits in its first week on YouTube and received a host of excited reviews! The song which premiered on Detroit’s 95.5FM is now available on I-Tunes. Also available is Drew’s mixtape CD Quarter Till Infinity hosted by the popular Detroit area deejay Mo Beatz. Quarter Till Infinity’s follow up, Twittermania, is due on deck in late August.
Drew32 recently performed once again at Hart Plaza’s Ribs-N-Soul Fest in Detroit, as the opening act for Star Factory Artist Development. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming CD, yet to be titled, and continues to perform to eager audiences throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. “If you really want it, quitting is never an option”.
