Drew 32, a 17 year-old junior at Avondale High School, Auburn Hills, Michigan is a seasoned rapper and producer. Hip-hop entered Drew’s life at around age 9 when he began listening and rapping along to songs by Lil Bow Wow and Eminem. Discovered by Terry “T-Funk” Simaan, Drew’s first recording was entitled “Pray for Peace (We Need Love)”, dedicated to the victims of 9/11 and was completed in 2001 at age 10. The song was recorded at MPA studios in Canton, Michigan. Around this time Drew began producing his own beats on Magix Hip Hop Maker. Within a few years Drew graduated to Sony ACID 5.0 and Cakewalk Kinetic to program and edit his beats.
By age 12, Drew had acquired an Alesis Multimix 12 USB mixer and an Audio Technica AT2020 microphone and advanced his recording abilities. In the summer of 2005, Drew began working closely with rapper and VH1 Freestyle 59 Contest finalist, Jay Hussle. Hussle’s studio knowledge and rapping style helped further mature Drew’s sound.
Drew’s first live performance was at a junior high talent show where he brought the house down with his original tune, “Get Up”. Later that year he performed at Avondale High School’s Spring Fest as part of the “Enayalatas”-a crowd favorite. Following this performance, word of Drew’s rapping ability began to circulate among high school kids.
In June 2007 Drew completed his first album entitled, “Awakening”-a 14-track CD which was virtually self-produced and recorded by Drew 32. “Awakening” showcased Drew’s diverse talents and influences, including reggae and steel drum music. The album takes listeners on a musical journey in terms of time (roughly paralleling a school year), location (“from ice to sand”) and personal growth and maturity. A record release party was held at the Troy Community Center, Troy, MI on Friday, June 15, 2007. The following day, Drew competed in the teen rap preliminary round of the Spotlight Detroit talent show at the eclectic, 1515 Broadway, Detroit, MI. A panel of judge’s, including Swifty McVay of the rap group D-12, selected Drew to advance to the semi-final round of the competition.
On the evening of June 27, 2007, Drew 32 performed for Radio Disney before a large crowd at the Detroit International Freedom Festival and Fireworks at the Hart Plaza Main Amphitheatre opening for Kiki Palmer.
On July 21, 2007 Drew 32 once again performed at 1515 Broadway and was selected as one of two finalists for the Spotlight Detroit talent competition finals. On August 4, 2007, Drew 32 returned to Hart Plaza performing at the Ribs ‘n Soul Festival where he won First Place in the Spotlight Detroit Teen Rap competition.
At the request of keyboardist, John Saddler, on September 1, 2007 Drew 32 performed with the Back in the Day Band at the Phoenix Center main stage as part of the annual Arts Beats and Eats Festival in Pontiac, MI.
On September 21, 2007 Drew 32 performed at the Atlantis Music Conference in Atlanta, Georgia and attended the Remix Hotel Producer Convention where he met producers, Scott Storch, Nitty, Billy Hume and rapper Killer Mike.
Beginning in June 2008, Drew 32 began producing and hosting a weekly hip-hop show entitled “Destination Detroit” on internet radio station Mango Radio Urban, broadcast from Athens, Greece. With the support of Mango Radio Urban and urban2u.com, Drew 32 traveled to Athens in July 2008 where he performed two exciting shows before jam-packed crowds at prestigious nightclubs Akrotiri Boutique and Giselle.
Drew 32 is continuing to produce songs for his anticipated second album release using Digidesigns’ Pro Tools LE and Propellerhead’s Reason 3.0. Most recently, inspired by the historic, redemptive campaign of Barack Obama, Drew 32 made a remix of his song, “Can’t Stop Us” which is scheduled for immediate release and is available for purchase on iTunes. The song is called “Can’t Stop Us Obama Remix (Yes We Can)” and features keyboards by John Saddler. The remix will most likely be one of the bonus tracks on his upcoming album. This sophomore album is rumored to be titled “Commercial Enemy” but there has been no confirmation in regards to the name of the album.
