The future looks good for singer/songwriter Drew Black. His first album 'somewhere in amongst the rest' which was liberally distributed around the UK, free of charge to the public, shows Drew in a studio and live atmosphere. Although he handles himself well in both situations to see him live is something special.
His emotionally driven songs about lost love and an endless search for peace allow you to see through his eyes and feel his rawest of emotions as if he was stripped down to nothing more than a voice bellowing in the distance ‘life can sometimes lead you in the wrong direction but it is you that decides to follow it’.
Varying from song to song Drew can manipulate his voice to convey everything that was felt when the song was first scribed. One second he can throw his voice with such ferocity and power it’s a surprise he needs a PA then to suddenly switch style and portray the ramblings of a broken man with nothing but love in his heart.
If you asked Drew to describe his style he’d probably say ‘new aged folk’ which is a pretty good description but not amazingly accurate. Drews range covers so much more and he has that rare ability of taking someone else’s song and making it his own without losing any of the original impact.
He truly is a versatile artists. Any opportunity to see him should be snapped up.
Hi Drew, thanks for the friend invite. If you get any gigs - aside from your Open Mic which I've got listed already - if you drop me a mail or put it on a bulletin, I'll happily list it on the guide. Take care, Jeremy.
