His tag-line is "A singer-songwriter with an edge". That seems
very appropriate for Drew Brown (aka "db"). His music sweeps somewhere between
coffeehouse intimacy and rock club pomp, his voice easily compared to
Peter Gabriel, Sting and Seal. But whether his live show
consists of two acoustic guitars or with a full rock combo backing
him up, Drew's vibrant songs still ring with
passion and soul. He says: "With the songs I write and produce... my
intention is to create songs that resonate with people spirits..... My
focus is the power of song, music that
moves people's hearts and minds. If I can do that.... if I can
have an album that are filled with songs that like that... then
for me, it is a success!"
For a long time "db" has been the hired gun.. playing and supporting
many Canadian acts as a guitarist, bassist, vocalist, musical
director or record producer. But with his EP "Cardiac" and the full
length album "From a Whisper to a Roar" (released on indie label
Avante Records) Drew is finally allowing his own voice to be heard.
"I was always a bit shy about my songs... always second guessing
myself. But the time came to just send it out and see what happens. I
hope people are able to turn these songs about my experiences in life
and love, and make it into their own anthems... let it apply to
their own stories and dreams."
His first two singles "Collide" (a rough and tumble rocker) and
"Reach Out" (a soaring brit-pop anthem currently on CHR radio) have both reached 2
on the CHR CanCon charts. And Drew was recently honoured with 2 Shai
Awards nominations for Best Male Vocalist and New Artist of the Year.
His intense blend of singer/songwriter pop, brit-rock, earnest folk
and ambient electronica creates an aural landscape that easily evokes
the imagination. And with strong songwriting, memorable vocals,
emotive arrangements and spiritually minded lyrics... Drew Brown is one new
artist everyone should keep their eyes on.
Drew was one of the original members of TEHILLAH TORONTO, as a worship leader and guitarist. And played on their debut CD "Born of the Spirit". He has toured acorss Canada with REUBEN MORGAN (from Hillsongs) and STARFIELD and has toured with Juno award winner AMANDA FALK, Tooth and Nail artist MANAFEST, Capstone, and Noel Richards among others.
He has also shared the stage with acts such as MatchboxTwenty, Wide Mouth Mason, The Tea Party and many more.

Hey Drew! Thanks for listening, re: the loss of my dear mum Jocelyn. She was a very wonderful woman, very vibrant, many great qualities. We miss her immensely. :( So, yeah... a VERY hard time - but one day at a time...we'll get through it. Also, almost glad that Michael was held up doing the video downstairs, as I got to hear the familiar chords to "Everlong." Man, such a GREAT song, would LOVE to sing that someday, hmm...wonder if it's on Guitar Hero??? He he. ;)
Thanks for the add man, good to hear from you! As for now, we're trying to arrange a cd release party downtown. Hopefully we'll be playing a lot in the next year. How are things going for you these days?
