1,000+ live performances to date, Drew De Four is a 6'7, Belgian-American, singer-songwriter, Dueling Pianist, actor, and multi-instrumentalist. After graduating from the University of Michigan in May of 2006, Drew embarked on his first world tour playing 75 shows over 5 months in 30 different international cities including Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, Boulder, Seattle, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin - performing at night clubs, cafés and piano bars. 2007 saw the release of his debut album: "Earlier Work" which he released at over 150 shows internationally throughout a year that also included Drew signing his first record contract with the Indie label: Grey Dog's Records in Japan. 2008 will see the release of "Love and Politics on a Piano" - an ambitious, yet minimalist, sophomore effort featuring only piano and vocals. This upcoming summer will involve another tour featuring Drew's solo act: a true variety show with original music, improvisation, over 1,000 cover songs to choose from, and an emphasis on interaction with the audience. All of this leads to Drew's most ambitious project yet: "The Troubadour" - an original musical and album that Drew hopes to start recording in January of 2009.
When Drew is not performing his own material at “original-music-endorsing” venues, he tours as one of the most prolific Dueling Pianists on the national circuit, performing a high-energy, sing-along, all-request rock show. Over the past 3 years, he has performed at over 40 different Dueling Pianos venues from coast to coast.
This summer, Drew will tour the US, UK, and Ireland to release "Love and Politics on a Piano," - an album featuring only the use of vocals and piano. The shows will utilize mainly piano bars and small venues suitable for Drew's one man show (and album).
Although he plays in a variety of formats, Drew's most recent incarnation as a solo piano performer has proven to be his forte. While promoting his original material, Drew enlivens audiences with his charismatic piano-playing style and inexhaustive repertoire. Drew desires to be an entertainer above all else and to serve the audience instead of vice versa. Though typically solo, guest musicians and even a backing band might also accompany a Drew De Four show (check Myspace.com/drewd4 for details).
Drew's music is a truly eclectic mix of all piano forms. Influenced by Ray Charles, Peter Gabriel, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, and the Afghan Whigs, Drew writes in a variety of styles and genres with a focus on rhythm and percussion. Lately, Drew's original sound draws on classical roots with a contemporary mix of rock, country, folk, soul and r&b. For the most part, Drew enjoys playing: "whatever you want to hear," because he values the audience more than the music.
