The August, 2009 definition of me continues to be: standup comedian. Writer. Anecdotal storyteller. Farmer.
I'm also a writer of essays and short stories though I am woefully behind on those.
Which reminds me, I'm also my own worst enemy. My middle name should be Versus.
I was born in Casablanca, Morocco long ago, moved to Ohio at age 2 and grew up there. Lived in NYC and San Francisco in the 70's and went back to Ohio till I was 35, then moved to L.A. for 13 years.
Most people think I've done standup since I was young. No. I started standup when I was about 32.
Before that, I owned a number of small businesses, some of them rather shady.
In the 13 years I spent in Hollywood, I don't think I liked being there for more than maybe 3 weeks. What passes for intelligence in L.A. is stupefying.
I accomplished a lot there. Not easy.
Last year, looking at my touring patterns, which are strongly Midwestern, and wanting to keep
my integrity somewhat intact, I left L.A. to many peoples' surprise and bought a farm in Southern Ohio.
A complete change from 48 years of urban living - "think Green Acres meets Fawlty Towers",
as they would describe it in H'wood.
I have been in Love many times and hope to be once more.
A few years ago, I coined a phrase, "I don't have the key to success, but I know how to pick the lock".
That's me, definitely.
I am blunt. I am sloppy enough that I have a housekeeper. I am unorganized enough that I have an assistant.
And I am masculine enough that I have a cat.
Right now, m favorite movies are: Billy Elliott and Gran Torino. Some of my current favorite songs are by Kaya Project and Hoedown
My favorite women are always redheads, but life changes colors on you sometimes...
And I love black licorice.
Quotes I like today:
"When I was young, I used to admire intelligent people; as I grow older, I admire kind people". -Abraham Hershel
