Neon-promotions(live review) : Tonites final act are Drift and Provide - and the four piece produce more industrial fuelled rock. Rythms are tite, groovy even, with a rap-ish vocal punctuating the beats. Drums work tightly with programmed sounds, and bass and guitar fill the air. Indeed guitar can pull some brilliant, soaring solos as well as embelishing the songs with some great sounds and fills. Key sounds add much ambience to the atmosphere. No matter how rocky the vibe becomes, the band always keeps a tite, machine like edge to their sound. At times things become down beat, dirty, stripped - reminiscent of NIN ala Downward Spiral. A difficult band to pigeon hole, these guys tread between solid rock, industrial rock, and something a little more groovy - a really superb act.
Alternative Urban Industrial Music to Confuse the Youth.
In keeping with their mission statement to Seek_Blur_Confuse_Contaminate, Drift and Provide deliver thrashing rhythms, dizzying riffs and driving, mantra-like vocals.
At times the music is melodic, other times the tight bass line and industrial beat fall in line with the ranting, chanting, evocative vocals. At all times the preprogrammed tracks fit neatly with the live noise creating an excitingly organic yet genetically modified sound.
Should you be lucky enough to experience Drift and Provide in the flesh, you will surely latch on to the sensation that they know what’s really going on and you too can be party to this elusive knowledge if you just let go and groove with their madness (that word being used with the best of all possible connotations). Don’t argue - just go with it. Besides, who among us wishes to challenge the brainchild of a larger-than-life Italian with a megaphone and a salacious painted grin.
The music alone is a wild and fascinating creature but live, being created spontaneously and layered over the prefabricated loops, the creature grows legs and stalks around the venue. It is addictive, consuming, bemusing and inspiring. This is a unique bird; a bird of prey with talons extended and wings spread, sending the vibes and loops soaring (with a delicious hint of ‘Eh, ciao bella’ seasoning for that extra Mediterranean…kick.)
The track ‘Sometimes’ has a jagged sound with razor like edges while ‘Angel’ is a heavy one, as though the emotions being expressed are so weighty that the music crawls along the floor, between boots and beer bottles, prostrating itself in a mirror image of frontman Valerio Recenti on his knees spilling his guts from mouth to megaphone, megaphone to microphone.
Recenti occasionally takes a wander round the audience – there is no separation between audience and performer – the spectator as participant.
This is music that has taken a look at the current state of electronica, turned its back on the scene and is climbing further up the mountain in search of fresh blood and unexplored ground.
