Let me introduce myself - I'm Dave Powner, owner of Driving Wheel Records, a tiny record label, which I run in my spare time and purely as a labour of love. Apologies in advance for my rather sparse Myspace page. I'm fairly new here. Music is the main passion in my life. I love most types especially FEMALE SOUL and 70's MUSIC in general and my record/CD collection is forever growing. Now for a little bit about my company...
Driving Wheel Records is home to Philly soul legend Cindy Scott,
our First Lady of Soul. DRIVING WHEEL
is an artist led label, based in
Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England.
We are dedicated to
producing the best in retro 70's, 80's & 90's soul and
dance music. The company's vision remains simple
- to do it our
way.
Cindy Scott, real name Sundray Tucker, was born in Philadelphia, the eldest daughter of Louise Tucker and Ira Tucker, legendary lead singer with the Gospel group The Dixie Hummingbirds. Her sister is Lynda Laurence (of The Supremes) and her brother, Ira Tucker Jnr, was one time manager of Stevie Wonder. Sundray's releases as Cindy Scott include 'I Love You Baby', released in 1967 and now a huge hit on the UK's Northern Soul scene. Sundray recorded sporadically throughout the 1970's. She performed background vocals for Stevie Wonder on Ordinary Pain, as featured on his "Songs in the Key of Life" album and also recorded for TK Records during the early 1980's. In 1979 Thelma Houston recorded two of Sundray's songs, 'Pardon Me' and 'Imaginary Paradise' for her "Ready to Roll" album. Read more...
