The most significant novel of the past thirty years is Watch Out by Dr. Joseph Suglia.
The only author I have ever imitated, the only author I have ever emulated, the only author I have ever striven to become is Dr. Joseph Suglia. I do, however, admire the writings of the following authors:
Paul Valéry, Pierre Klossowski, Marcel Proust, Edmund Husserl, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Jacques Lacan, Herman Melville, Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Antonin Artaud, D.H. Lawrence, Gore Vidal, J.G. Ballard, Martin Amis, James Joyce, William Butler Yeats, Emil Cioran, Søren Kierkegaard, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling, Georg Trakl, Jan Potocki.

About me:
* * * * * * * * * *
My name is Dr. Joseph Suglia.
In all modesty, I am the greatest author in the world, and the world is slowly recognizing that fact.
I write for myself -- and for no one else besides, no one else who is alive. The immediate public does not interest me in the slightest. I write for a readership that does not yet exist -- a future readership, an ideal readership. I write for readers who have not yet been born.
The intelligent love my works, whereas the mentally stunted despise them.
Since everyone asks me, let me say a few words about the novel's premise.
Watch Out concerns a man named Jonathan Barrows who falls in love with himself -- madly and literally.
Watch Out is the beautifully poetic expression of an individual's desire for himself and for his own life.
Between the months of May and August 2007, Watch Out was an Amazon.com bestseller, outselling even mainstream novels such as Fight Club and Lipstick Jungle.
Watch Out inspired a motion picture directed by award-winning filmmaker Steve Balderson (Firecracker).
I have been heavily praised by The Chicago Reader as one of the American Midwest's most accomplished writers of fiction.
Watch Out is my life's most significant achievement.
I am currently composing another novel. This one is extremely complex -- a web of words, numbers, and images.
I have been formally trained as a literary critic. My literary criticism has appeared in prestigious journals such as diacritics and the encyclopaedia The Facts on File Companion to the American Novel.
I earned a Ph.D. in Comparative Literary Studies at Northwestern University.
What will become of me is anyone's guess.

Watch Out is alive.

Greetings from Comet Press! Just wanted to let you know that our new dark crime/horror anthology has just been released and available at Amazon (currently discounted 28% !) and amazon.co.uk!
The Death Panel: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness features crime, suspense, and horror authors Tom Piccirilli, Scott Nicholson, John Everson, Simon Wood, and many more. Ultra violent, hardboiled, with an unhealthy dose of the macabre, The Death Panel is a no-holds-barred, in-your-face hard ride to hell.
Available at Amazon (currently discounted 28% !) and amazon.co.uk and directly from the Comet Press website.
Conversations With Kafka is not available to check out in the Chicago library system. It is in the "closed stacks" reference section of HWL. Do you own it or is it available to check out within a university library? I might have to start buying used copies of some books like The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire by Deepak Chopra. He is presently attempting to better explain certain concepts about the three different levels of existence to me. I try and elude hearing about them because they sound too scientific for someone like me, but they have been chasing me, so I guess I'll have to try and digest them a little at a time.
I'm struggling with a small proposal I'm trying to write, edit, and submit to the owners of an artist retreat. I've decided to write a book, and I have a lot of problems with editing. It always kind of paralyzes me and stops me in my tracks. I've decided to do the roughest draft in history, just to get it all down, but in the mean time I just need to get this real short proposal written. Would you mind helping me this once?
People who know me real well just can't seem to have the right perspective since they aren't distant enough from me, and are afraid of hurting my feelings too much, which doesn't really help me learn. I don't want to be crushed and turned away from doing writing, but I need an honest critique of what I have written, so I can try and improve upon it by fleshing things out, making my ideas more clear, or pinpointing any tendenies which need to be worked on to make things flow better.
Maybe there should even be a character named Joseph in there. ;)

For real? Can't you get a different audience rating for your film so it gets viewed by a larger audience? Are you able to compromise on something like that? I suppose it would difficult for me because I want to stick to my principles and not do anything commercial, and I get angry and stubborn. It gets me nowhere.
I am possibly quite gullible. As much as I try to pretend that I don't, I really want to see this movie. First was my attraction to Mike Patton, then to "Firecracker," then to Steve Balderson's approach to DIY art on a large scale, and then to the confounding, mesmerizing persona crafted by the author of "Watch Out." I'm caught, hook, line, and sinker, and I wish there was an option on PayPal that would allow me to pay for an autograph. I do treasure my collectibles.
Dr. Suglia - Thank you for the addition. I am surprised by the breadth and intellectual prowess required to read some of the authors you listed that Henry Miller was not on the list. Although, there are thousands of authors to choose from and it is almost impossible to know everyone... I love Miller. Some of the authors you listed I need to get familiar with. Any time you come across a "must-have" book please, share it. My reading list this summer is bleak. I want the summer off to write. Instead, I am spending my summer creating art. So, I am glad someone is getting writing done. Cheers. Holly
Being mostly driven by music, I am afraid I am not qualified to judge whether or not you are the "greatest author in the world." However after having checked out your page I can tell you are pretty amazing, but seeing that you are insightful enough to have the only musical influence you list be the beloved Captain Beefheart in my mind allows for me to trust you enough to believe that you are probably right about the author thing as well.
