Interests

  • General

Hanging out with my friends, watching movies, writing screenplays, producing or directing movies, having money, moving out, getting a girlfriend, learning a trade, being happy.

  • Music

I have awful taste in music. The least embarrassing include Barenaked Ladies, blink-182, Green Day, Kanye West, The Postal Service and "Weird Al" Yankovic.

I am also truly obsessed with the beautiful music of Julia Nunes and very much enjoy the electronic ethereality (not a word) of Kyte.

  • Movies

Here is my top ten (so far) of 2008:

I love lots of films, too many to list. So, in lieu of films, the directors who inspire me, and, in whole or in part, make the kind of films I'd like to make: Woody Allen, Paul Thomas Anderson, Tim Burton, John Carpenter, Joel and Ethan Coen, Joe Dante, Terry Gilliam, Sam Raimi, Martin Scorsese, Kevin Smith, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Edgar Wright and Robert Zemeckis, among many other films and filmmakers.

Actors I like include Bruce Campbell, John Cusack, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Samuel L. Jackson, Steve Martin (sometimes), Bill Murray, Guy Pearce, Simon Pegg, Jean Reno, Seth Rogen, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis.

Actresses I like include Amy Adams, Patricia Arquette, Geena Davis, Zooey Deschanel (best ever), Jenna Fischer, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kelly MacDonald, Thandie Newton, Franka Potente, Natalie Portman, Chloe Sevigny and Emily Watson.

I like bad horror movies (especially bad sequels), my opinion often changes every time I see a film, and I'm trying to buy fewer DVDs.

  • Television

My favorite TV shows are "Arrested Development", "Spaced", "The Office" (both versions), "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", "Flight of the Conchords", "Mystery Science Theater 3000", "Human Giant", "Stella" and "Creature Comforts".

I bought "The Wire" and "Dexter" but I've yet to watch them, and I also want to pick up "Kidnapped". Other than that, I don't watch TV, and I refuse to watch any soap operas, reality TV shows, or anything on the E! and/or VH1 Network.

  • Books

Bruce Campbell's autobiography If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor, Big Trouble, Tricky Business, Sphere, Timeline, The Princess Bride, October Sky (aka Rocket Boys), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and Starship Titanic.

    But I should read more.

  • Heroes

    Everyone I know.

Blurbs

About me:

I watch movies, I write movies, I draw comics, I post things.

I used to post two YouTube videos here of things I thought were cool at the moment, but MySpace 2.0 doesn't like the HTML code involved, and their help system is totally fucking stupid, so for now, no vids. I'm sure you're all heartbroken.

I pretend to be a writer and director while generally writing and directing as little as possible. Eventually I will have to start working on that, though. Right now I am working on Matt Lingo's films Who is Blankenship? and Untitled Hotel Movie (Down and Out on the Up and Coming, Sunshine and Limeade are on the backburner). "The Roommates" is kind of in stasis, because we all have work and no camera and no script for the first episode, although I absolutely want to make it. Every day that passes the more unlikely it seems...

Who I'd like to meet:

I don't really know who I want to meet until I get a chance to meet them.

People I've met:
- Michel Gondry (director of The Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)
- Bruce Campbell (star of Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness)
- Miranda July (writer/director of Me and You and Everyone We Know and author of No one belongs here more than you.)
- Danny Boyle (director of Sunshine and Trainspotting)
- Shane Black (writer/director of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and writer of The Last Boy Scout)
- Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright/Nick Frost (star/co-writer, co-writer/director and co-star of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz)
- Darren Aronofsky (director of Requiem For a Dream and The Wrestler)
- David Lynch (director of Mulholland Dr. and Blue Velvet)
- James Wan and Leigh Whannell (director/co-writer and star/screenwriter of Saw, and producers/co-writers on the sequels)
- The Presidents of the United States of America aka Chris Ballew, Jason Finn and Andrew McKeag (band behind "Peaches", "Lump", "Some Postman" and "Mixed-Up S.O.B.")
- Michael Showalter (writer/star of "Stella" and Wet Hot American Summer)
- Jason Reitman (screenwriter/director of Thank You For Smoking)

And Julia Nunes commented on my MySpace, this very one! That is awesome.

People I've talked to on the phone:
- Jay Chandrasekhar/Erik Stolhanske (writer/director/star and writer/star of Super Troopers -- Thorny and Rabbit)
- Andrew Niccol (writer/director of Lord of War and writer of The Truman Show)

I also got messages from Rian Johnson (writer/director of Brick) and Rob McKittrick (writer/director of Waiting...) online. Plus, I interviewed Dane Cook, but he's sort of sold out. That said, despite being a high-school paper interview from four years ago, my interview is still on his website, so that's kind of cool.

wow thirst looks crazy awesome...is april a US release date by any chance? I just picked up lust/caution but i haven't heard anything about it or watched it yet. I did see I'm a Cyborg and I absolutely loved it. tried to get others to watch it, with no success. It was a very beautiful film, and the dialogue was hilarious... especially the part about the ex-officer's furry bride...

Sorry man, it was a little impromptu thing where Lane, Frank, and I helped Kenzi and her parents move her stuff out of the apartment in Seattle, and then we hit up the pinball for a couple of hours afterwards. It was total luck that I got there right when Steve was on.

yeah so remember the big chest burster scene in "Alien"? yeah that's me somewhere around October 9th. I am looking forward to it, actually. Have you ever seen that horror movie with the baby that is born with teeth and claws and kills all the doctors and then runs off and they have to hunt it? Well they have DVD players in the labor rooms at the hospital...
