1.1 billion people worldwide live without safe drinking water and everyday over 25,000 of them die from preventable, water-related illnesses.
Of the 680 million who live in Sub-Saharan Africa, approximately ONE-HALF do not have access to a disease and parasite-free water source.

About me: Drop In The Bucket is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to combating the deadly water crisis in sub-Saharan Africa. Our mission is to provide a permanent source of uncontaminated water by constructing wells in rural schools through out the region combined with a complete system that consists of a roundabout pump, a hand washing station, a delayed septic system, toilets and a reservoir tank.

Who I'd like to meet: Our first wells were in Wairasa and Imanyiro both in the Jinja area of Uganda. Since then we have installed wells all over Uganda, though now we are concentration on water projects in the Lira area of Northern Uganda. After a 20 year long guerilla war the people of this region finally feel safe enough to return to their villages. Drop in the Bucket are currently involved in 5 projects in the region all at local schools.
In October 2006, Drop In The Bucket broke on our first project - two wells for the people of Wairasa. We began the process by commissioning a hydro-geological survey. The results of this study determined the location and depth of underground water. Next, we travelled to Wairasa to oversee the digging and installation of the wells. Your donations went directly to this project and thanks to all of your generous donations the people of Wairas now have clean water for the first time. Of course that was just the start, project two followed then wells 3,4 and 5. In our first year we completed 8 projects, we are currently on project 5 of 2008 and it's only february.
