Hidden tones in mechanical drones, sounds I hear (or think I hear) in things, late-nights with my FX expansion board and a sustain pedal, meditational driving...
Droune is Victoria and I (I being David, a.k.a. edavid). I play keyboards/synths, effects, harmonica, cymbals, samplers, singing bowls, processed field recordings, etc. She sometimes plays recorders, singing bowls, ocean drum/rain stick, and uses her voice.
I started Droune all by my lonesome in 2000 or so, as an experiment in atmospherics where I tried to recreate, manipulate, and play around (in an ambient context) with some of the tonal drones I kept picking out of everyday noises I was hearing, like fans, lawnmowers, airplanes, and other whirring motors and like sounds... It was really just for my own entertainment and curiousity that I did this... Eventually I happened to have an album's worth of these late-night experiments, and released it (in 2003).
I/We have played a few live sets, each of which has been partially pre-constructed and partially spontaneous and unique to the performance. (Victoria first joined me for a show at the end of 2005 and did some improvisational vocal and recorder parts. It worked out well, so it's become a more permanent arrangement.)
After a long dry spell, we're slowly starting to work on some new material... Check back from time to time if you might have any interest in it.
Thanks for the add. I came across your site here and I really like the song you have posted. I hope you post more and/or make other songs available as I like it!
