About Drowning Shakespeare - NEW BLOG, MERCH BLOWOUT!
Despite the densely overpopulated terrain of the screamo and hardcore genres, Canada’s East Coast is successfully putting a stop to mundane and redundant jams by kicking a start with Sydney’s Drowning Shakespeare.
The quintet, rounded out by vocalist Bob Popwell, guitarists Evan Morrison and Jonathan Wells, bassist Ryan Tubrett and drummer Christopher Poirrier began their tenure as a consistent lineup in May of 2007 and subsequently made efforts to spread around their infectious melodies, catchy riffs and fun choruses with their junior full length, Show Some Ambition, Kid. Not only did the album’s title best represent the 11 tracks, but ambition is something the band literally adhered to throughout the record’s tedious writing and recording process with Mark Scott of Smash Box Studios.
“It didn’t happen with all of us sitting in a room for days; it was a very broken up process. Everyone has crazy schedules so we usually only had two or three days to rock out in the garden shed. I learned how much of an asshole everyone can be in very small spaces,” laughs Evan.
“These songs represent a growing process for DS. If you compare the album to our first and second records you’ll see what I mean,” says Bob.
Kevin Gales of Torque Records obviously agreed with Bob’s sentiment and welcomed DS to the Torque family in September of 2007, which the band collectively agrees will be hugely beneficial for their future.
“In order to fully succeed you need assistance. We just wanted to be with a label that would help us along our journey, and one that we could give back to as much as they’ll have given us. Torque is it,” says Bob.
Armed with their tightest and savviest music yet, a significant fanbase along side solid ground to catapult their efforts off of, Drowning Shakespeare will be doing just the opposite as the years progress: swimming their way to the top.

Hey guys, how's it goin? This is Andrew. Erosion has not been a band for the longest time now. I started a new band with Stephanie Darling on Bass. Bruce Ainkens is going to play drums with us for a while because we can't find a drummer.( what else is new lol) I haven't played or sang in forever and just started back up again trying to write songs. It's harder to write a freaking song than i remember! My jaw and left hand were/are messed up so that's why i haven't been playing. Keep in touch guys, hopefully we can play some shows whenever we get some songs together:)
