Bonk is a one man percussion ensemble featuring original music by Mike Wojik.
Founded in 1995, Bonk is influenced by the music and people of the Indian Ocean region which, due to their proximity to the ancient trade routes, have developed a truly unique mixed culture of African, Indian, Australian, and French ancestry in a stunning tropical island setting.
Mike has developed a startlingly unique method of presenting his music live, using homemade inventions which enable him to play up to seven different instruments at once, such as Djembe, Didgeridoo, Berimbao, Darbuka while maintaining the integrity of the traditions from which they came.
(No electronic devices are used, no animals are harmed)
While Mike's rhythmic/cultural education is ongoing, he still considers it very important to pass along this information to others through performances, classes, and workshops, so that we may better understand how our differences can enlighten each other.
Bonk has released two CDs, the self-titled debut in 2000, and 2004s Kolombangara, both on the Rastafazool label. A new album is set for release in June of 2007.
Bonk is endorsed by Kirmizigul Darbukas, from Istanbul Turkey.

Hey Mike, thanks for checking us out. I really dig your multi-cultural approach to percussion and music-making in general. In fact I'd probably like to pick your brain on the matter sometime.
