Sounds LikeDrum Station North is the world’s first rudimental drum jockey, a completely original act combining the difficulty and creativity of rudimental competition drumming with electronic percussion and a high-tech light show that reacts to accents and frequency. With double bass drumming, competition stick tricks and difficult visuals, Drum Station North becomes entertainment of the future. People dance to the beat of the drums. DSN adds rhythms, counter rhythms, effects and linear voicings DJ’s cannot duplicate.

   About Drum Station North
Former Michigan, United States and World Champion competiton drummer Ken Mazur combines modern electronic percussion, syncopation, musicianship and rudimental chops into high quality virtuosity called DRUM STATION NORTH. Unlike disc jockeys, this drum jockey mixes the faster, complicated, moving rhythms of todays music with the energy of live performance and a light show that reacts to changing sound frequencies, changing form and color to accents and rhythms. DSN can replace three and four piece bands - cost effective with high quality - a concert in itself. Patrons can relax and watch, or dance to unique music from the world over including European House and the beats of Ibiza in the Spanish Mediterranean, Trance, Progressive House, high driving Big Band Jazz, Acid Jazz, feisty Brazilian Axe music from Bahia and the clubs of Rio, Ipanema and Copacabana, Funky House, Electronica, Melodic Rock and appealing Tropical salsa rhythms from Miami, Cuba and Puerto Rico, American retro 70s, 80s and 90s charts, the sound of Motown, Top-40 covers and soulful ballads slow dancers succumb to. People dance to the beat of drums. DSN adds rhythms, counter rhythms, effects and linear voicings DJs cannot duplicate - completely original - something new and innovative to attract interest for many different venues. ........ With help from David Below (former Crossmen drum corps snare), 4 sets of music were readied with acoustic drums in 2003. Electronic equipment was purchased in July of 2006. Drum Station North first performed October 17, 2006. DSN now has had month long tours, adding new venues as the list of clients grows. ............................................................................................................................................. Drum Station North began when being called on stage to play accessory instruments as a 3 year old with a wedding band. Two chairs became my drum set for the entire evening. That night, grandpa pulled out his competition practice drum (a bushel basket with an inch thick piece of wood over it) and taught paradiddles and 5 stroke rolls. After lessons started, all furniture fell victim to stick dents. New furniture did not fare much better. ............................................................................................................................................ Instructors include Jay Tuomey (7 years) and Bobby Thompson (2 weeks) from the famous Sons of Liberty Fife and Drum Corps who taught the grip and forearm motion of East Coast masters, the best teachers of style and form that ever lived. Detroit's Johnny Wallace taught drum set coordination, double bass drumming and sight reading while driving his own 18 piece big band with a groove. The best Michigan corps drummers headed to Toledo and Mark Petty's Glassmen drumline where his arranging techniques and genre knowledge were absorbed. Marty Hurley was a Bobby Thompson student, which enticed me to join the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, winning the DCI World Snare Drum Individual Championship, teaching with Hurley when Regiment took 2nd place for the world title. A percussion judge for many years, I eventually was circuit caption head who trained judges and wrote score sheets, later voted president of the Great Lakes Judges Association. ................................................................................................................................................ Credits include being published in "Percussive Arts Society", "Modern Drummer" and "International Association of Rudimental Percussionists" magazines, historically the inventor of Olympic style training techniques for competition drummers, developing speed drills and advanced methods for speed, strength and power. Two books are still in print: "The Technique and Mechanics of Competitive Rudimental Snare Drumming" (for those seeking competition titles) and "The Basic Technique of Rudimental Drumming" (a coordination and technical base.) Work has been ongoing for 11 years on "The Perfectionists: The History of Rudimental Drumming", a look at technical, performance and adjudication changes through a millenium. ................................................................................................................................................ I was in competition against some of the best rudimental drummers in the world: Rob Carson, Santa Clara Ca. (the worlds first speed drummer, 3 time world champion); Steve Chorazy, Pendelton, Oregon, (2 time world champion); Scott Johnson, Concord Ca., (former world champion); Tom Brown, Newark N.J., (Thompson student, Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights); Bob Schreffler, Chicago, Ill., (Cavalier anchor snare, Frank Arsenault student); and Paul Siebert, Santa Clara Ca., (Santa Clara anchor snare). Of note are two proteges who adopted similar training techniques, four time DCA senior snare champion Rick Beckham and seven time DCA senior tenor champion James Christian.
