Bio
DRY SEPTEMBER is an LA-based band at the forefront of rock’s New Populism movement. Frontman David Tokaji has recently received nominations for Singer-Songwriter of the Year by both the LA Music Awards and the Independent Singer-Songwriter Association. His songs tell stories of resistance, community, and reform--tales of the downtrodden outcasts and underdogs among us. The band's crunchy guitars, Hammond organs, and catchy melodies recall some of rock's boldest artists, past and present: Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Counting Crows, Wilco. .. Their latest CD, entitled Build a New Town, features 10 new tracks. These songs present characters at their most hungry and most vulnerable, fighting for dignity during hard times in a hard land. .. The band has recently received a number of accolades:.. • David Tokaji was a 2008 nominee for Male Singer-Songwriter of the Year by the Los Angeles Music Awards... • Tokaji was also a 2008 nominee for Singer-Songwriter of the Year by the Independent Singer-Songwriter Association... • The new CD ("Build a New Town") was runner-up for Rock Album of the Year by the Toronto Magazine Awards... • The song "Back to Birmingham" was nominated by the Hollywood Music Awards as Song of the Year (Roots/Americana). .. • "Build a New Town" was selected a Rock / Alterative Finalist for the 10th Annual Great American Song Contest... • “Back to Birmingham” has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the Rock/Alternative category of the Peacedriven Songwriting Award 2008... • Dry September received an Honorable Mention at the 2008 Malibu Music Awards... • The song “Back to Birmingham” is featured on a CD and DVD tribute to Martin Luther King entitled “Dream On” and on the Songs of Justice CD... .. Dry September has been performing regularly throughout Southern California for the past two years and developed a committed community of followers. Hey Dave! Your songs are having a lot more meaning for me, lately. A LOT. What a coincidence...lol. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and hope to see you soon. I am on house-arrest or something; got fired from the club for having a sense of humor, and I am still trying to recover ANYTHING I can from being totally robbed last year... So kinda hanging out in limbo over here, listening to the radio and CDs all the time,, doing random photo shoots, selling some of my paintings/photos and jewelry that I make. Written WAY too many songs the past year to organize them yet, lol. I need to sift through them. Hope you are doing well, keep in touch. 310-796-6143 cami_now@live.com

PS: Thx for the add!
