d-Seven are pioneers. Sure, they stand in a long tradition of great bands. But the thing is that they stand at a confluence of several great traditions. Weaving together the best elements from hard rock, metal, industrial and electronica, d-Seven has found a bold and original sound that is helping open up new doors of creativity. And it's opening up listeners' ears to a new way to think about heavy music.
When Words Fail
Sometimes, words just aren't sufficient to get the job done. Sometimes your tongue and its sounds just aren't up to the task. When that happens, it's time for the aural arts to step in. Or, as d-Seven puts it, “When words fail, music speaks!” Music is not only the connecting heartbeat between all human beings it is the very life that pulses through the body and soul of d-Seven. “Music is the blood that runs through our veins and it's a way for us to connect with other people who are feeling the same way.” Music offers the ideal mode of communication for d-Seven's socially conscious ideas and it shares those ideas in a brilliantly entertaining way. “Music allows us to say what's on our minds, what we think, get out our aggressions, destroy it all and bleed out some of the venom that has been built up.”
From the Deep
You could say that d-Seven believes music must come from the deep – that is, from the innermost truth and soul of a person. The artist is only fully successful when his or her art is a reflection of the one doing the creating. “Whatever you write has to be something (1) you believe in, and (2) music that you are a fan of.” In other words, for d-Seven, the path to great music is to say something that is truth as you see it and to express that truth via a musical form in which you are personally invested, through a style you truly love and therefore are intimate with. It's about satisfying self, not kowtowing to others. “Writing songs to appease others or to comply with the market is just pathetic ... As long as you are being true to the music and you are writing it for yourself, then the hell with the rest.”
The Artist at Work
d-Seven's song “Stand at the Gates” hit the top ten in a lyric contest. If you want to see why d-Seven is a winner, hold tight – touring is coming soon. d-Seven is in the process of wrapping up writing for its follow-up to the successful “Strength of One” EP. D.K., guitarist and founding member of the band has worked with Virus (formerly Crossfire), Hybrid, Fade Down and Rust. d-Seven is currently working with A&R Select, the leading indie A&R firm in Hollywood, CA.
“d-Seven is hammering the listener and leaving marks.” - A&R Select
