Naked Lunch is a poetry/music open mic night, experimental, expanding and running art into the ground every other Wednesday night upstairs in Feile Bar, on Dublin's main leisure strip, Wexford Street.
Here's the dates between now and 2010:
Wednesday 9th September 2009
Wednesday 23rd September 2009
Wednesday 7th October 2009
Wednesday 21st October 2009
Wednesday 4th November 2009
Wednesday 18th November 2009
Wednesday 2nd December 2009
Wednesday 16th December 2009
All dates are at:
Upstairs @ Feile Bar,
Wexford St.
Dublin 2
8:30pm
You don't need to book in advance to perform, just turn up on the night. Performances are limited to 2 poems or songs, in order to make sure everybody who turns up gets a chance to perform.
Past acts have included makeshift bongos, jazz flute, singer songwriters, story tellers, up and coming Irish rappers, poetry read off mobile phones, beer mats and toilet rolls, transgender country hoedowns, violins, acapellas, me, you and the other fella.
We’ve featured several amazing poets in our time, great Irish hopes and bright talents such as Dave Lordan, Aoife Mannix & Orla Martin, visiting performers such as Gina Ferrara from New Orleans, or Perciphone Petticoat and Alabaster DePlume from the UK, and we want to provide a regular platform in Dublin for every level of poet - from outright beginners up to regular performers, we want everybody to feel at home at Naked Lunch.
Musical talent has been equally varied, Sleepy Rise, 15 Minutes, Addy & The Gallery, Go Go Go, Dylan Walshe, Stephen Masterton, Alabama 3, Michael Willow, Bits and David M Garrell are just a few of the countless excellent performers who have featured. old faces will always be welcome to return as often as they like.
Our minds are wide open, and this is a perfect place for people who aren't too comfortable performing their music-verse-prose live to get to grips with performance in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The most important thing to us is, and will always be, that both performers and audience have a fun night, and go home happy and stinking of drink.
We operate under a rapid fire system, everybody who wants to perform puts their name on the list, and we work through the list with one performance each. We alternate between poems and songs to keep things interesting. Once everybody has performed once, we go through the list again, so everybody gets 3 or 4 performances, spread out over the night.
Everybody is welcome, to watch, or to perform. We don't deal in sneering elitism and everybody who wants a turn at the mic gets a turn at the mic. Promise. And if you can think of it, whatever it may be, we'll let you try it, in front of a super cool audience who are very supportive to beginners.
Plus, we'll take you back to our gaff for cans/coffee afterwards.
It's free in, it's free to perform, and it's a bloody good laugh.
Hope to see ya there!

Addy music is now here, with thanks to the right hon. Desmond Swords for making recordings happen...
Lucius here! I'm letting my myspace friends know that my old page is now the official profile of the "Handbook for the Modern Mystic." I'll be releasing the Handbook as a 5-book series, staggered from now to the end of 2012 (an arbitrary timeline that in no way pertains to ancient Mayans). There's a load of new text segments in my Blog; I hope that some of it resonates with your experiences and insights. Much more material will be featured on the upcoming web site, modernmystic.com.
Howdy, i like your site very much. I like what you are doing with the Naked Lunch nights. (You should have more! I hope you will!) Annoyed i missed yesterday. But will attend soon. Looking forward to it. Seems like a nice bunch of folk you are. Take care and take it easy, K.
Hey hey! Thanks a mill. Glad you liked it. Had a blast on Wednesday too. Doing new songs is fun. More fun when they work out! See you in fortnight chief. By the by the Naked and Hungry cd is brilliant! Definitely one of the sweariest cds I have ever played hahah. I can practically sing along with some of the poems now (does one sing along with poems or does one speak along? eitehr way - hurrah!). Well done!
This Friday 28th of August, I'm playing Pravda (Lower Liffey Street) in support to Blanca Transfer & in association with Club Fear... it's free in and should be a great night!! Thanks for reading & for all your support!!
