  • Bio

Dub Vulture was formed in 2006 by veteran Edmonton indie rocker/alt.cowpunk Tim Balash (Maykings, Big House, Jody Shenkarek, ad infinitum). Drummer Mike Silverman of Old Reliable fame was recruited on drums, and as a duo the band released the White Riot EP (mixed by Shout Out Out Out's Nik 7) featuring a "brilliant" [Zoe Street Howe] reggae version of The Clash song. By 2009 the band included Amy Van Keeken of Edmonton's pop vixens The Secretaries (as well as Colleen Brown's solo work) on looped vocals and keyboards and Brahm Ollivierre providing old-school toasting. The full length CD Voodoo Love Nuke was released in early 2009 to glowing reviews – "this is the sort of collision between styles that can gift an old style with new life" [VUE magazine] – and spent a month at no. 1 on CJSR's International chart. Trombonist/percussionist Brian Golightly joined soon after the album's release and has become an integral part of Dub Vulture's growing reputation as a powerful live act mashing up punky reggae, funk, rock and electronics. New material is being recorded this winter of 2009-10 and will be released by the summer of 2010. ..........View Dub Vulture's EPK..
  • Members

Tim Balash, Mike Silverman, Amy Van Keeken, and Brahm Ollivierre have been making music for a combined total of 438 years. Previous and ongoing projects have included The Maykings, Old Reliable (including solo work with Mark Davis and Shuyler Jansen), The Secretaries, The Sunset Six, The Chrome Magpies, The Naked and the Dead, Shady Pines, and the pre-spandex version of Big House (aka Big Whore). All these many gigs have given them the good fortune to have opened for the likes of K'Naan, No Means No, Green Day, The Corb Lund Band, DOA, The Sadies, The North Mississippi Allstars, Husker Du drummer Grant Hart, Richard Buckner, The Smalls, The Supersuckers, and Elliot Brood. More impressively, none of the above were to suffer any perceptible drop in performance revenue.

OUT NOW: MARIJUANA DREAMS by DUBBLESTANDART

Vocals: Lee Scratch Perry, David Lynch, William S.Burroughs, Anthony B., Elephant Man, Gudrun Liemberger, Trigga.

"Marijuana Dreams” was recorded in Kingston-Jamaica, the Bronx in New York and the band’s own studio in Vienna. Dubblestandart’s handling of this mission has been exemplary: the productions are pleasingly individualistic, retaining plenty of originality and professionalism without seeming stoic, dull or contrived.
A DUPstep remix by the New Yorker Soundsystem SUBATOMIC rounds the end of the astonishing album to a perfect end as well as the dub versions they have been made to appear on the album and making “Marijuana Dreams” to the most extraordinary DUB productions in 2010.

OUT NOW!! on amazon / on I-Tunes
and in all good record stores.
